I didn't know why I felt Kylo's presence there with us at that moment. It was startling and unsettling. I held off on saying anything until the end of our session. Rey wandered off somewhere and I waited until Luke joined me.
"What are you thinking?" He asked.
"There's something about that girl," I replied. "Something off. I don't know how to explain it."
"I felt something too," Luke replied. "I just didn't know if I was the only one."
"You are the only one here for awhile," I said.
Luke nudged my shoulder before offering out a hand. "I haven't missed that mouth of yours."
I took his hand, getting up. "Yes, you have. Whether you like to admit it or not, I was always your favorite padawan."
Luke just chuckled as we walked back to the houses. I had been given one of my own so all of my things were there. BB-40 was waiting for me and chirped a little as I stepped in. I greeted her with a hello and a pat on the head. I was half tempted to send a message to Poe to update him but I knew how dangerous it was. The First Order could track the message and find their way to us. I couldn't let them do that.
Still thinking, I sat on the floor with my legs crossed and my hands folded in my lap. I bowed my head slightly and slipped into a deep meditation. I didn't meditate often as I didn't have time and didn't want to get caught. But I had always found them relaxing and grounding. Since I was in a peaceful and safe place, I did it with ease. My breathing slowed and my thoughts cleared.
I could feel the island around me and feel the different people on it. I knew where Luke and Rey were. Expanding outwards, I saw the entire planet. Breathing in deeply, I moved farther outwards. I could see the surrounding planets, stars, and feel the space on my skin. It was as close as the air around me. It was calming to see all of that and still be distant from it.
As my meditation session came to an end, I stood up, my knees cracking as I did. I stretched and breathed in deeply, yawning. It was about time to eat so I stepped out of my hut. I found Luke cooking silently nearby. He looked rougher than I remember but it was still the Luke that I grew up around. The one that trained me and is the reason I was the person I was.
"Did you enjoy your meditating?" Luke asked as I sat down.
"Yes, I did," I replied. "I haven't done it in so long that it was very calming."
"That's good," Luke replied. "How long are you going to stay?"
"As long as Rey needs to be here," I replied. "I'm here for her. She needs someone there for her. Not like you're not enough."
A ghost of a smile flashed on his face. "No, I get it. Rey needs a friend and that's what you're being for her. That's good. I doubt either one of you has had many of those recently."
"Hey! I have friends!"
Luke snorted. "Like who?"
"My squadron. Jessika, Tallie, Poe . . ."
Luke raised an eyebrow at me.
"No," I said. "Poe's not like that with me. We're just friends."
"Friends with feelings for each other."
I sighed. "Yeah. It's mutual and we've both admitted it to each other but nothing has really happened since then. We're taking it slow because of everything that's going on. I know Jedi aren't supposed to have feelings like that but I really do like Poe."
Luke rested a hand on my leg. "The Jedi Order has ended a long time ago. We don't have to follow those rules anymore. If you want to be with Poe, you can be with him. You have my permission."
I snickered, looking down at my lap. "Yeah, okay. Thanks for that."
"Anything for my favorite padawan."
