02. A Fire Side Party

Later that week, I got to my quarters a little earlier than usual. The party was that night and I wanted to look semi-decent. There were parties at the end of every week. I didn't go to very many of them but I hadn't gone in a few weeks. I was usually dirt tired. But the workload wasn't too bad and it wasn't too rough on my energy levels.

After getting dressed, I headed out. I walked out of the living quarters and found the party rather quickly. The people that were already there were already drunk. I joined Tallie and Jess, who were already a little tipsy. I was handed a drink by Stomeroni, who was passing out drinks. I was halfway through my drink when Poe showed up. He stopped by for some small talk with my little group.

He wouldn't stop looking or glancing at me. I met his gaze a few times, smiling a little when I did. The firelight flickered across him, casting shadows over his face. It made him look attractive and mysterious. If I hadn't known him for who he was, I would have fallen for him.

I eventually sat down on a fallen log, a drink half full of some alcohol. I smiled as I looked into the fire in front of me, already feeling the warmth. Poe came over to sit next to me.

"Hey," he greeted.

I smiled a little. "Hey. How's your night?"

"Pretty good," Poe replied. "It's nice to see you here."

"Well, I said that I would," I said. "And I like these kinds of things. It reminds me of my childhood home."

"Where did you grow up?" Poe asked.

"Shili, the home planet of the Togrutas," I replied. "Where did you grow up?"

"Yavin 4."

I sipped my drink. "A truly beautiful place."

"Have you been?"

I nodded. "A few times. Did you like it living there?"

Poe nodded, looking me right in the eye. "Yeah. More humid than here but it was nice. Do you want another drink?"

I nodded, handing him my cup. "Please. Something strong."

He nodded and disappeared into the crowd. I waited patiently for him, watching the people around me. There were a lot of people there. I recognized many of them from around the base and though I hadn't known many of them deeply, I still cared for them. They were a family in a way.

Poe came back, holding out my drink. Taking it, I brought it to my lips. Poe sat back down, a little closer than before. We chatted for the better part of the night, getting to know each other more. I didn't reveal much about myself and my past but it was nice to know Poe. He wasn't quite the reckless and cocky pilot I thought he was.

When it got to be around midnight, I left to head to bed. I wasn't alone, however. Poe was following me. Not closely but close enough that I felt him. He was making sure that I made it to my quarters safely. I stepped into the building I lived in and stepped into an uninhabited side hall, waiting. Poe came in a minute later and passed by the hall I was in. He thoroughly looked confused when he didn't see me. So I put on a grin and came up behind him.

"Looking for me?" I asked.

Poe jumped, looking back at me with wide eyes. "You scared me, Naaraa. Why did you have to do that?"

I laughed. "Because it's just too easy. You were following me."

"No, I wasn't," Poe denied.

I snorted as I passed him. "You were. Don't try to bullshit me, Dameron. I know when someone is following me."

Poe fell into step with me. "So we're on a last name basis? I wouldn't have thought so back at the fire. I was under the impression that we were getting close."

I snorted as we got to my door. "Don't get so cocky, Dameron. I'll see you in the morning."

"We'll get close one day, Sykon, I promise."

I rolled my eyes as the door closed behind me. BB-40 woke up from her charging pad and chirped a greeting. I bent down and scratched the top of her head. I told her about the party as I got changed out of my party gear and into the nude. I often slept in the nude, especially while stationed on a tropical planet. Though most times I slept with some kind of breast wrap and undergarments of some sort. It made it easier to get up fast and into my pilot's gear even faster.

Falling into bed, I stared at the ceiling above me. I could faintly hear people walking to their rooms. It was relatively quiet though. Breathing through my nose, I closed my eyes. It was late and I had an early morning.
