It was one of those days where there was a lot to do and nothing was going right. I was having electrical problems with my x-wing and it was taking too long. It didn't help that I had a few meetings and a debriefing that I had to be at and it wasn't helping that I had a lot to do.
"Hey, Naaraa!"
I looked up to see Tallie. "Yeah?"
"The debrief is soon," Tallie reminded. "Don't forget!"
"Yes, ma'am!"
I hurried my fingers along the wiring, hissing as my fingers became even rawer. I would have blisters by nightfall though it wouldn't be the first time my hands had become the brunt of hard work. A few minutes before the debrief, I got up and headed for the center of the hanger, where the command center was. Leia was leading the debrief and would be answering questions.
As I neared the door, Poe joined me. I smiled kindly at him as we walked in. We ended up sitting next to each other and chatting for a moment. He looked at me a goofy smile the entire time we talked. The debrief started within a few minutes, Leia commanding silence with a raise of her hand. Everyone was quiet, waiting to hear what Leia had to say.
Basically, everyone was there. I looked around, seeing multiple familiar faces. I knew a lot of their names and their backstories. They were my family and I would do anything for them.
Leia began her speech, her voice clear and loud enough for everyone to hear. There were a few times where Poe would whisper something into my ear, almost causing me to laugh. Every time he would say something I would smack him so he would shut up. He was relentless though and wouldn't shut up with his commentary.
When the debriefing was over, everyone dispersed. I went back to my x-wing so I could get back to my work. I sat in the pilot's seat with my legs propped up and a pile of wiring on my lap. I knew that the longer I stayed, the more my back would hurt but I stayed where I was. It was actually quite peaceful where I was. I wasn't as bothered with the hustle and bustle of everything below. I was in my own bubble. Until an ever so familiar voice interrupted.
"Hey, Sykon!"
I sat up, peering over the side of the cockpit. "What do you want, Dameron?"
"Can I join you up there?" he asked.
I looked around me. "There isn't much room here but sure."
Poe climbed up the ladder but stayed on the top rung, leaning forward to see what I was doing.
"Rewiring?" he guessed.
"Yeah," I replied. "I haven't done it in a while and it was about time to do it."
"Do you need help?" Poe asked.
I handed him a knotted pile, showing him how I liked it to be done. He stayed to help me, even though I knew he probably had a million other things to do. We sat there for hours, just talking and basically bullshitting with each other. There wasn't a time where we weren't smiling or laughing. When it got later in the evening, we set aside the almost finished wiring to go to dinner.
The cafeteria was almost empty. The dinner crowd had already gone through, most likely taking all the good food. It was fine as I finally realized how hungry I was. I had barely eaten all day. Repairs had kept me from doing much else.
With all the tables empty, Poe and I chose the most empty one. The rest of our friend group had most likely already eaten so it was just the two of us. Not that I minded. Poe and I had a good relationship and we were getting along well. He was starting to become one of my good friends. And I didn't mind at all. Poe was a good man and I was starting to trust him. Not enough to tell him my past or who I truly was but enough to know that he had my back. It helped that he was attractive though. At least I could have something pretty to look at while fighting in the endless war against the First Order.
After we ate, I headed toward my room. Poe followed a few moments later. He bid me goodnight, a charming smile on his face. I rolled my eyes, telling him goodbye as well. I had barely entered my room when BB-40 lit up, squealing as she rolled up to me. I smiled tiredly, rubbing her head goodnight. Falling into bed, I fell asleep rather quickly, not even bothering to change out of my clothes. I was too tired to care anyway.
