Chapter 39

Nico's POV

     After Koios drained our blood, I knew we had to do something. We couldn't just stand there as Koios became as powerful as Kronos when he nearly busted out of Luke. I had to get rid of our restraints. I closed my eyes and concentrated, calling on every bit of my power, everything that made me who I was. I opened my eyes for a second and glanced at Reyna, her face staunch with determination and resolve even after just losing her sister. "No," : I decided, "we're not going down without a fight, not like this. I concentrated so hard I felt the blood vessels in my forehead burst, and then heard a small crack. I looked down at the chains and cuffs that bound my ankles and wrists to the floor. A black colour seeped into the bronze, like ink soaking into paper. I willed the black to continue spreading, continue weakening the metal.

     I looked up, Koios has just added the final ingredient. "Now or never." : I thought. I let myself go, releasing everything short of my own life force into those chains. They stiffened, and exploded in a massive shockwave. The blast passed harmlessly through Reyna and I, disintegrating the four cynocephali behind us and blasting every monster within twenty metres, off their feet. Best of all, the blast sent Koios stumbling backwards into his throne. I lunged for one of the guards axes and scooping it up, I turned and hurled it at the cup in Koios' hand. The blade smacked into the goblet sending it flying, it's contents splashing onto the cavern's floor. "NO!" : yelled Koios', he whirled his eyes blazing. "You're going to pay for that son of Hades!" : he snarled, his suit morphing into gold greek battle armour. 

     I laughed. Grabbing a sword, I swung at Reyna's restraints, shattering the chains. "Koios is mine." : she growled, she grabbed a gladius from the floor and turned to face the titan. "Can you handle his troops?" : she asked. I held out my hand, a familiar stygian iron sword forming in my grip. "Shouldn't be a problem." : I replied. She raised her sword, and was about to charge when I said: "Rey wait, one more thing." I grabbed her waist and pulled her into a kiss, pouring all the adoration I had for this girl into it. Yeah, with a raging titan and two ranks of cynocephali closing on us, I still make time to kiss my girlfriend. We broke apart a second later. "Brilliant timing Neeks." : she smirked and then turned and leapt at the titan of the north.
