All is not right with the world.

If it was, I wouldn't be sitting across from my mom who really needs to learn how to call ahead. If it was, she wouldn't be smiling like she's on crack, listing all the attributes of the boy next to her who apparently is my future husband.

"Mom"

"And the best part, he's going to Harvard too, studying business administration"

"Mom"

"You guys will have such an amazing life together and not to talk of how adorable your children would be"

"Mom!"

"What, Gwendolyn?" she snaps, like she's the one with the right to be annoyed.

I exhale, look, "I'm sure you're a nice guy Ethan"

"Eric" my mom corrects sharply.

I roll my eyes, "whatever, as I was saying Eric, the last time we met, you tried to kiss me in the foyer and that's really all I need to know about you. Also," I turn to my mom to say the last part, "I have a boyfriend"

"What?"

I smile, "yep"

"Who is he?" she asks, leaning forward, intrigued with what I do for the first time.

My phone starts ringing and when I see the caller ID, I smile, "apparently, he's the devil"

"Hey"

"Hey Princess"

I let out a small sigh as butterflies erupt in my stomach. God, I'm in love.

"What's up?"

"How'd you feel about going to dinner tonight?"

My smile widens, "a date?"

He chuckles at the obvious excitement in my voice, "not quite, princess, sorry. Mom wants us to meet her boyfriend, they're getting really serious"

"Did she really say us?"

"Me and you. Your opinion is important to her too."

I sniff, "you're making me emotional"

My mom clears her throat at that moment and I remember what is going on around me. "Oh yeah, speaking of mothers, mine wants to meet you"

There's silence on the other line, "Cole?"

"Your-" he pauses to take a breath, "your mom wants to meet me?"

I laugh, "yeah"

"I'm breaking up with you"

"That better be a really stupid joke. Come over in like an hour, bring your dinner outfit, you'll meet my mom and we'll go join Gabby and her boyfriend for dinner. Sound good?"

"I don't understand what you're saying, Princess. We're broken up remember?"

I roll my eyes, "see you soon"

I hang up and turn to my mom and Eric. I smile as I reach for one out of the red velvet cupcakes served between us that my mom wouldn't touch with a fifty yard stick.

I take a bite, thoroughly amused by their expressions. Eric is severely uncomfortable and my mom can't decide between curious or mad.

"Cupcake?"

"Awwn, you're such a cutie" I bite my lip, trying but failing to hide my amusement as I assess Cole, standing at my doorway with flowers and chocolates.
