Cole scratches the back of his neck awkwardly, looking everywhere but at me "Uh, princess? I was wondering if you'd go with me to the winter formal"
I smile and reach forward to turn his face to me, "I'd love to"
He exhales,"Thank you"
I shrug and take a step back, "you're welcome, now go ask her!" I nod towards Megan currently blowing up a balloon.
"Are you sure? Maybe one more time"
I roll my eyes, "Coleridge this is the sixth time" I grab a white rose from one of the bouquets by me and hand it to him, "now go" I shove him towards her direction with a smirk.
"See you in the library" I call out after him.
With a satisfied smile, I turn and hang up the last of the ornaments on the huge white tree.
The Formal committe and volunteers have been working for the past couple of weeks on the gym and as I take a step back and take a look I'd say we've outdone ourselves. I'm standing next to the gigantic white tree with an angel on top and shiny black and gold ornaments, we've blown up hundreds of black and white balloons, pretty silver stars on the ceiling, lights strung everywhere and of course, mistletoe every two feet. I feel like I'm in a fifties fairy tail movie.
Everything is ready, music, food, decor, program. The only thing left now is for Ryan to ask me.
"Thanks guys, that's all for today" I yell out and everyone starts packing up, I see Cole and Megan talking and she's holding the rose and I can't help the wide grin that splits my face.
Friday night is going to be awesome!

"So I asked her"
I look up from my notes as Cole takes the seat next to me in the library.
"And?" I ask excitedly.
He sighs and that's when I notice his expression, oh no.
"She already has a date"
"What? Why? No" I'm so sad for him, "did she say who?"
He starts fiddling with my pen, "uh, I'm not sure that's something you want to know"
My eyes widen and I feel my heart drop to my feet, "no" I whisper, "It's not who I think it is" I grab onto the sleeves of his Letterman's jacket, "Right?"
He sighs, "apparently, he asked her after the date, you know, the one we ruined"
"Apparently not well enough" I groan, "this is all my fault, I shouldn't have brought it up"
He sighs, "Don't expect any objection from me"
I turn away from him and hold my head in my hands as I mull over just how stupid I am, "I can't believe this" my hands fall away from my head and I slam my head against the table.
"I'm so dumb" I hit my head again.
"What is wrong with me?" this time, Cole's palm stops my head from hitting the table.
"What did the poor table ever do to you?"
I huff and push his hand away, "you don't get it, do you know how many guys have asked me to the Formal? I've turned down at least five guys, from the basketball team alone and do you know what I told them? I told them I was already going with someone and now I find out that he didn't even consider me at all"
I fold my arms on the table and rest my head on them, why does my life suck so bad?
We just stay like that in silence, lost in our own thoughts till I feel someone's presence behind my chair.
