The Legion woke just as the sun was beginning to rise on the horizon. All around me, were angry, cranky grumbles about the ungodly hour that they were waking up at. Sleeping bags had black-clad creatures of the night crawling out of them, all making some sort of pissed-off noise. It was almost as if I had woken up in the middle of an episode of The Walking Dead. Not only was there moaning and groaning, there were also dozens of people stumbling around in the fading shadows of the night. Freaky.
"Wake up, wake up, wake up!" CC shook my bag before jumping on top of me. "Come on Jess! The sky's awake, so we have to be awake!" He started to shake me again as he chuckled.
"Christiannnnn," I smacked at his hands. "You're too hyper at this hour." I managed to sit up, though he still stradled my waist, watching me carefully so I didn't lay down again. "Are you going to help me up or am I going to have to struggle out from under you?" I grunted. A mischievous grin spread across CC's face, causing me to groan like the rest of the Legion semed to be doing. He may have been the lightest of the Wild Ones, but he was still too heavy for my little body. He ended up inching off my legs, gripping my hands to pull me up. In my half-asleep state, I stumbled over my own feet, falling into his chest. "Oof!"
CC was taken aback a moment, before letting a fit of laughter burst out of his throat. I joined him after the ground had stopped spinning. I saw people giving us dirty looks for being so loud this early, but we couldn't help it. I swear, if CC and I had met under different circumstances, we would have most likely been dating. This guy really did make me feel like I mattered.
After Christan and I had calmed down enough to eat a quick breakfast with our friends, the makeshift camp was packed up. We still had a ways to go before we could begin phase one of the Uprising. When we got within a few hundred feet of the city walls, we had to pair up-more or less. Our lot just had to seem greatly frightened so that Andy could get us in as survivors of an Uprising in a different city.
Jake signaled us to find partners or group up, the spikes of the guard towers coming into view. I stumbled through the mass of bodies all huddled together, some girls even managing to start crying. If I could remember correctly, this is what Anthony had looked like when he arrived in our old home-a city much like the one we were about to destroy.
A pale hand wrapped around my wrist, pulling me into someone's side. It didn't matter who at this point; we just had to stay together until we were deep within the city. I let my eyes wander up the arm of the person holding me, only to be met with a pair of blue eyes I knew all too well. "Brandon, what the hell?!" I tried to pull away, but his grip was like iron. I couldn't get away.
"You have to just trust me, okay?" He pleaded. "After this, I'll leave you alone." Brandon could tell I wasn't up for dealing with his shit. "I promise."
I rolled my eyes, damning him to hell under my breath. I let him guide me deeper into the mass of soldiers, taking his advice in raising my hood higher onto my head. I wore a short cloak-like thing; it concealed my weapons completely. I could just make out Andy's gravely voice at the head of the crowd tell the guards that we had survived an Uprising. As we passed through the gates, Brandon pulled me just a touch closer to his body. I ducked my head down, listening to the hushed words he whsipered in my ear. "We had rebels in here for months," I saw him shake his head sadly. "They all bow down to F.E.A.R-this entire city is already gone."
I looked back at the guards we had passed, taking in everything I could, as it would all be gone within a matter of days. The guards walked the tops of the walls and at the gates, keeping an eye on anything that moved. Most of them were young, buff men. There were some women, though they were only seen in the towers. I had forgetten how sexist they cities were.
The walls...they made everything inside their limits look like a prison. The huts we passed, most likely used for security personel break rooms and such, looked so dark and depressing. I couldn't imagine how I lived here all my life. I saw one woman in one of these huts, sipping on a drink. A few tears fell from her cheeks before she wiped them away.
"How awful..." I thought. I shook my head, trying not to dwell too long on the dark inside, but rather to focus on the light peaking over the city walls, reminding me that there is light somewhere.
A loud crackling filled the air suddenly, making some of us wince. I remembered these.
"The Rebels claim that a brave new world is upon us; don't be fooled by the chicanery in which they lay their claim...it is false! And their uprising will NOT succeed." I bit my lip, resisting the urge to cry out in anger. I could see in Brandon's eyes that he was fighting the same demon.
"You will place your trust in F.E.A.R-
-YOU MUST."
~Hello lovelies! Sorry for the late update....I don't understand why it takes me so long to write these damn updates. I have this written in a notebook, which I'm far too lazy to transfer into my computer, plus, A LOT of it needs to be re-written. Badly. Maybe that's why it takes me so long...hmm...
Well I'll let you all continue on with your day/night now, or you're already doing that, not bothering to read my author's note. That's fine. I hope you all have a wonderful day and don't forget to vote/comment/share!! <3 ~
