Chapter 4

I walked up the crumbling church steps. "Andy!" I called.

He was sitting on top of a broken pillar; his hair in disarray around his head. Andy hopped down when he heard his name. He landed with a quiet thud.

"I need to talk to you." Andy stood close to me so I could hear him. Upon closer inspection, I could see his eyes were still slightly red from crying.

"What about?"

It took him a moment to speak. "Now that Juliet is...g-gone," He took a deep breath before continuing. "We need a new leader for the girls' tent-the boys and I really don't understand women that well." Andy started to enter the building.

"Andy, you can't possibly be talking about me! I just got here! Y-you can't expect me to-woah!" I covered my eyes.

"Ash-what the hell man?!" It seemed like Andy was covering his eyes as well. "Can't you two do this somewhere more private?"

On the alter, were two people. One, a man with tanned skin, tattoos, and long black hair. The other was a girl with pale skin and a tattoo that stretched from her collar bone down to the top of her hip. "Shit!"

I heard a surprised shout and a slam. I took a peek through my fingers to see that the alter was clear, though there were arms and legs flailing around behind it.

"That," Andy shook his head. "Is Ashley and his,uh, girlfriend?"

"Wait-"

"Ashley is a Wild One." He stated as the man stood up with his pants still half off. "Literally."

"See ya later babe." Ashley pulled the girl to him and kissed her powerfully. When she was released, she hurried out of the room. "So this is the new Jessie I've been hearing about?" He asked as he made his way over to us.

"Why were you two doing it in here?" Andy rolled his eyes.

"Well...she does look great spread on a table." Ashley winked.

The blue-eyed Wild One let his head fall back. "Jesus Ash..." He groaned.

I took the moment of silence to continue what I had been saying before I had seen more of Ashley than I had wanted to. "You can't expect me to help lead all the girls!"

Ashley held up his hands. "Woah woah woah,WHAT?" He stopped either of us from saying anything more. "Are you seriously appointing her as Jules' replacement?"

"No!" Andy rubbed his temples. "I'm talking about Big Jess," Seeing the slightly confused look on the other man's face, he corrected himself. "The other Jessie-JESSICA." Then he pointed to me. "This one is going to be her second in command."

Ash and I were silent until I able to speak. "W-what?"

"Well, second in command when she needs it. Plus, you've survived a day of being in the Legion with everything that's already happened. You can take a lot." He focused his eyes on me. "You can handle it, I'm sure."

I looked down at our boot-clad feet. I could feel both of them starring at me. I guess I could handle it, but what if I can't? What if someone else is lost?

"Does Jessie know?" I asked when I looked up.

Ashley looked to Andy, who nodded. "That's where CC was coming from when he bumped into you."

Suddenly, the heavy oak doors of the church were thrown open. A girl with long black hair stood gasping between them; it looked like she had ran a great distance to get here. "Andy!" Her eyes lit up with relief. "Andy, there's Shadows...dozens of them...coming from the South!" The girl's head whipped around when the sound screams came from the distance. She took off the way she had come.

The three of us stood motionless as the screams multiplied-some were screams of terror, others were battle cries.

"Go gather as many of Legion as you can!" He shot out the door with a blinding speed, pulling a dagger from his boot. Moments later, he disappeared in the crowd.

As we ran out after him, I glanced at Ashley. "What are Shadows?"

He flipped his bangs out of his face. He had a hard, concentrated look in his eyes. "They work for F.E.A.R."
