"W-What?" I forced the word out of my mouth, though it sounded like a whisper. "Andy, the Wild One isn't real-it's just a stupid bedtime story-"
Andy cut me off abruptly. "That's exactly what F.E.A.R wants you to believe. The story of the Wild One began long before you and me, back when their organization started," He began to lead me farther away from the rest of the small group that had begun to gather. I stared out at the giant expanse of desert in front of us as Andy spoke to me quietly, giving me a short history lesson. "This was years ago, when the Wild One lived. No one remembers their face-except one."
I looked up at him then, seeing the passion burning in his eyes. "Who?"
"Control-he's the voice of F.E.A.R. You heard him all the time when you lived in the city." He thought for a moment, his lips held in a tight line. "In fact, his voice was probably the one you heard in your dream." He nodded to himself.
"How does he know the Wild One? Did everyone else get their minds wiped or something?" I looked back at the make-shift camp behind us; it had gotten so far away now that they looked like little black hills. I could tell my friends were still staring after us, watching...waiting.
Andy chuckled, a smile forming on his face as the deep sound came from his throat. "No, nothing like that; getting your mind wiped is mostly saved for criminals." He became serious once again, a cool breeze swirling around us.
Juliet? I wondered.
"Everyone simply forgot what the Wild One looked like-no one remembers if they were male or female, tall or short...they simply refer to the Wild One as-"
"The Masked Warrior." We spoke in unison. "I know the story well-my mother used to tell me that I wouls ask to hear it all the time." I looked down at the thought of my mother, hoping that the splitting seams of my shoes would distract me.
"The masked warrior died a few years after F.E.A.R was created, most people that still believed in the Wild One thought that it was in fact Control that had killed them."
I looked up at him then, seeing him looking off at the rising sun. "Do you believe it Andy?"
He nodded, that firey passion burning in his blue eyes again. "I want you to try something," He muttered a moment later, pulling out a throwing knife from his boot. "Take this and think of all the things that anger you most." He held out the hilt to me, eyeing me carefully.
I grabbed the knife out of his outstretched hand, looking between his face and the blade with uncertainty plain on my face. "Andy, what is this going to-"
"Just trust me okay?" He pleaded. As my eyebrows pulled together in confusion, he took a few steps away from me. "Think, Jess, think." Andy crossed his arms, watching me cautiously.
I wracked my brain for the little things in my life that always managed to annoy me, even the bigger things that other people would do. If I were thinking of things that pissed me off that I myself did, the list could go on and on; how obsessive or protective I can be for no reason, how I cry when I get frustrated, how much I lie and so much more. Just the little things that I've noticed or others have pointed out.
"Think harder." I heard Andy snarl.
I delved deeper into my mind, pulling up memories that I had hoped to bury and forget. Some were sad, others would just make me sick. Though there were some that caused me pain that made me want to scream-scream at the top of my lungs till all of the emotions were washed away.
