All I need in this life of sin
Is me and my girlfriend
Down to ride till the bloody end
Just me and my girlfriend
I've got all the windows down and my system up pumping Pac. My girl needs an oil change. I asked around and everyone goes to Sloan's. He offers student discounts and he's downtown near everything so you can chill while your car is being serviced.
"Hi. I made an appointment for an oil change on my BMW." I tell a rugged looking man. He leers at me then my car.
"Sign in and hand over your keys. You're number three."
"Ok. What does that mean?"
"It means you're third in line. I'll get to your car in forty minutes. You can wait here or go for a walk. The choice is yours." I don't know if the discounts worth the attitude but I'm already here. So, I leave my keys with Marlboro Man walk towards the near by downtown. Downtown is quite the sight. The streets and roads are cobblestone like in Philadelphia but much cleaner. Every road off of Main Street is named after a founding family. Lining the streets are little Mom-and-Pop stores and restaurants. I stop off in a ice cream shop that boasts the best soft serve in the entire state. A bell dings over the door as I enter the shop.
"Hey, girl. Welcome to the Swerve." Hannah says from behind the counter.
"The Swerve, really?"
"I know. The owner has no idea why everyone laughs when they hear the name."
"I didn't know you worked here. Are you guys hiring?"
"Yup and yup. I'll get you an application as soon as you order."
"Sweet. I'll have a large Jamocha Cookies n Creme Shake."
"Awesome sauce! Coming right up!" While Hannah's preparing my shake, I look around the shop. It has an old time vibe. There's a juke box by the door, booths along the right wall, and a counter at the front at the end of which is the register. I slide into stool closest to Hannah which is opposite the door. There are couples in most of the booths: some young and some old but all look like they're in love.
'I've never been in love. I've been in lust and like but never love. I wonder why?'
The bell dings pulling me out of my melancholic mind.
'Of course, it's him.'
Macho jughead Dean comes in with a couple of other jocks. They're loud and obnoxious behavior ruins the vibe inside the shop.
"Why is it that everytime I see you, you're alone?" I roll my eyes.
"Deanie. Now I know you aren't bothering my friend." Hannah says as she slides my milkshake to me.
"Nope. Not bothering, at all am I?"
"Just a bit." I say holding my fingers so close that they're damn near touching.
"See? I don't like when my friend gets bothered because then I become sad. And when I become sad, Trev and Tay will want to know why. Because I never lie to them, they'll know it was you then there will be trouble. Do you want trouble?" Hannah asks innocenty. Dean, not one to be easily humiliated, crosses his arms in front of his chest.
"I'm not afraid of your DJ boyfriend or bulldyke best friend. They should be afraid of me." Once again, the bell rings.
"If you were smart, you would be." Tay says as she and Trev, I'm guessing, enter the shop.
