Ren's POV
This has got to be the hangover from hell. The struggle to raise my head from the pillows is so overwhelming. I'm not the only one with a sore head this morning. Poor Perry is moaning too. I would wonder but even thinking is hard at this point. I hold my sore head with both hands and lift into a seated position.
"Ohhhhh! Fuck me! Why did I drink so much?" I groan. Sitting up does not agree with me. I swing my legs over the side of the bed. I shuffle walk to the vanity mirror where there is a note written on the glass.
Ren,
Bet you're hurtin right now. Should've smoked then you wouldn't have the massive hangover. It's a trade secret. Anyway, the dresser has clothes I've left from sleeping over. Help yourself and try not to overstay your welcome at Han's. Don't forget Sunday Dinner. Come over at eight. We can work on the project and our "relationship".
'Hardy har har. A shower does sound good.'
I check the top drawer of the dresser and find underwear and socks. The next drawer has shirts and shorts. The last drawer has jeans. I pull a basic white tee, grey basketball shorts, and unopen pack of Calvin Klein boxer briefs and head to the en suite. The bathroom is suprisingly clean for a college student. After a good scrubbing, I feel halfway human. I check myself out in the mirror.
'Wow! I'd make a cute stud.'
I leave the bedroom with Perry hot on my ankles. Perry overtakes me at the top of the stairs and flies down.
"Morning, Ren. Want some eggs and bacon?" Han cheerfully calls. I slump in a chair at the table.
"Why are you not hungover?" I moan.
"Because I smoked. Duh! Dumb-dumb! Now eat up; you'll feel better." Han says as she feeds Perry. I hungrily wolf down the eggs and bacon. It's hands down the best breakfast I've had since leaving home. Han slides me a glass of orange juice to wash it all down.
"Thanks. That disgustingly delicious."
"Thanks, I guess."
"Yea. Thanks for today and last night. I'm going to turn in the appy and recover. Is Perry staying with you?"
"No problem and yes. Tay will pick him up later today." Han walks me to the door. We hug at the door then I blast out her driveway in my baby. I regret speeding when I pull over just aways down the road to throw up.
'I did not taste as good coming up. Ow, my nose and throat burn like crazy. I am never drinking that much ever again. Maybe next time, I'll smoke some so I can test this no hangover rule.'
I slowly make my way back to the dorm where hopefully I'll get more sleep. Ann isn't in the room so that's good. I empty my waste bucket and bring to the side of my bed. I strip down to just the Calvin's and fall into a restful dreamless sleep that only comes from having a hangover.
I wake up refreshed and ready to sing like a Disney princess. I take a second shower. As much I loved dressing like Tay, I rather be me. For the time being, I lounge in my Hello Kitty bathrobe.
Everywhere we go we feel like we're strangers
On the other hand it makes feel major
If they never knew then maybe they'll name ya
Don't let em change yaMy phone rings from my discarded shorts. It's home.
"Hey Mama."
"Hi baby. Big ol college girl don't know how to call home. How you been sugar?"
"I'm fine Mama. Just busy. How's everything?"
"Busy as all hell. We all miss you. Papa, Jed, and Hunter miss your baking. The cows miss your gentle touch. I miss your smile, baby. Them city folk treating you right? You made a special friend yet?"
"Mama! It's not a big city; it's like home. I have made a special friend. Her name is Taylor."
"That's great. I'm glad you won't be lonely. You know I worry bout you."
"I'm not a baby anymore, Mama."
"I know that but you will always be my baby. I love you sugar."
"Love you too. Tell everyone I love them."
"I will. Don't wait too long to call. Bye baby."
"Bye Mama." Hanging up, I realize how much I miss home. Ma and Pa are getting up there in age. It can't be easy to run the farm. Maybe, Hunter will move back and help out. Jed does ok but he's to immature to take care of the business part of the farm.
I can see them now. Mama with her favorite apron on calling me from the kitchen. Her blonde hair cascading down her shoulders. Her ice blue eyes lit up by delight. Pa has his chesnut hair with the gray streak tucked into a ballcap. He has his long lanky frame in the whicker chair on the front porch. Probably drinking beer and playing dominoes with Jed. Jed's across from him in matching overalls and hat. His sandy blonde hair cut low with the cap sitting even lower shading his pale green eyes from the sun. Hunter would be in his apartment in the city. His blonde hair matching mine in color. He's drawing something or whatever it is architects do.
'First break I get I'm going home. Maybe I'll tell Hunter and he'll help me surprise everyone else.'
Ann texts me about a foam party later tonight. Just what I need to get me out of my melancholy. I text Tay.
Me: Foam party tonight @ 10. 1st party as couple. Meet at yours?
Tay: Busy till 11. Meet me then.
Me: With what?
Tay: You'll see. Laters
