Tay's POV
Josh and I have been stocking the fridge and freezers since 6 AM. I just started baking bread and cookies. Josh is supposed to be making food prep but instead he keeps ragging on me about Ren.
"So, how's the whole girlfriend thing going?"
"Fine. Why'd you laugh yesterday?"
"Because you're player number one. Seeing you settle down is like Brady quitting football or seeing Oprah stop helping people. It's the central part of you. I kinda feel bad for Ren; you're only going to end up hurting her."
'Is that really how people see me? Hmm, I know it's meant to sound negative but I kind of like it.'
"Well Joshie, believe it. Ren's mine and mine alone; I'm her's and her's alone. I'm sorry to burst your bubble. See it this way. Now, girls will have no choice but to settle for you." I tease. Josh sends me a one finger salute as he waits on an older couple. The bell dings again and a woman walks in. She's pretty: a long legged brunette. Not alot of curves but she has phenomenal eyes. They're brown with gold flecks.
'I'm such a sucker for eyes.'
"Hello Miss. Welcome to the One Stop Sub Shop. How may I help you?"
"Hi..Taylor. I'd like a chopped tuna salad with all the veggies, salt and pepper, and oil and vineager." She rattles off.
"No problem, miss. Any cheese?"
"Sure. What do you have?" She twists her hair between her fingers.
"We have prov, cheddar, mozzie, swiss, pepper jack, and american."
"What do you recommend?" She asks pushing up on the glass. Normally, I would be irritated but not so much right now.
"A mix of cheddar and mozzie."
"Sounds tasty." I throw all the veggies in a mixing bowl. I pull the chopper off of the shelf. I chop the veggies with style twirling the chopper around my fingers. I toss the salad and sprinkle the cheese like I'm on the Food Network. Josh watches me from the back shaking his head.
"Any sides? Chips, drinks, cookies?" I ask.
"A diet Coke and three chocolate chip cookies. Also, can I have a tray?" I get her extras and plate everything.
"Grand total is 10.97."
"Here's a twenty. Keep the change, cutie." She winks as she sits in the booth.
"Thanks Gorgeous." I respond. Josh chuckles from the back.
"And that is why you make a horrible girlfriend."
"Why? Because I recognize beauty? If so, sign me up for the player's club."
"You can't just flirt like that anymore. You have a girlfriend."
"Pbbtttt. Don't worry. Me and Ren are fine. You should be taking notes. Even with a girl and this shitty uniform, I still can pull. You can't even get a girl in your Sunday best." I tease. The rest of our shift goes by fast. Our reliefs, Rachel and Ian, clock in. They have got to be the most annoying high school students.
Rachel is Joe's daughter. She's totally spoiled. She's a short blonde with no curves. She can't think of one good thing to say about anyone. For some reason, she likes me even though she's a devout Catholic. Every week, she offers to both sully and save my soul.
Ian is the ultimate jock. He's a carbon copy of his brother Dean. Both big bulky brunette with wicked hair. Only difference is I actually like Ian. He's smart enough not to mess with me.
"See ya kiddies. Try not to burn the shop down." I call out as Josh and I leave the shop.
Chirp. Chirp.
My phone announces as I receive a text from Han.
Han: Hey. I dropped Perry off a min ago.
Me: Thanks babe. What you doin tonight?
Han: Dinner with Trev @ in-laws. Hbu?
Me: Dunno yet.
Han: Date night w/ gf?
Me: Maybe. Gotta go. Mom asked me to mow lawn
Han: Ok. Laters
I change into black Nike basketball shorts and a grey Nike t-shirt. I put an old pair of sneakers and mow the front and back gardens. Perry keeps me company until I crank the mower in the back. It takes the rest of the afternoon but I get the job done.
"Per, I think I'll go get tatted tonight." Perry whines.
"It's all part of the plan. I think I'll get couple of piercings as well." Perry jumps from my lap. He sits in front of the door likes he's forbidding me to go.
'I'm still going, bud. I just need company.'
"Hey. You wanna come with me some where? You know you want to. Meet me at the Skud's Row in thirty. Laters."
Chirp. Chirp.
Another text. This time from Ren.
Ren: Foam party @ 10. 1st party as couple. Meet at yours?
Me: Busy till 11. Meet me then.
Ren: With what?
'Nunya damn business.'
Me: You'll see
I shower the afternoon off and change. I put on a white t-shirt with plaid board shorts. On my feet, I have a pair of black Van top siders. I wear my Polo strapback. I gather my keys and wallet.
My phone starts ringing.
"Yea? So? I'm always late. I'm leaving now. Promise. See you soon."
'I'm ready to cause trouble.'
