Taylor
"How's the hands?" Hannah ask while riding my back. Thanks to the codeine, I'm not feeling shit.
"Better than my back and definitely better than Dean's face. The Doc hooked me up." The Doc isn't really a medical doctor; he's a street pharmacist that "prescribes" medication for students.
"Christ! Why didn't you say something?" Hannah tries to hop off my back but I kneel instead and allow her to slide off. She gingerly intertwines our hands and we continue walking to my apartment which is three blocks away from the shop. Hannah gently sways our joint hands.
"You weren't hurting me, Han. Forget about last night. What are we doin tonight?"
"I've got a date later with Trev but I'm free now. Video games and beer?"
"You read my mind, babe. Throw in a few spliffs and I'm yours."
"Of course that goes without being said. But only a few. Last time we smoked I became deaf and dumb. It was like Weekend at Bernie's or something." We cross the main street and end up in front of the brownstone. My landlady, Mrs. Barnes, is waiting at my door. Mrs. Barnes was my nanny. She's been with my family for over twenty years and is the closest thing to a mother I have or will ever have. Her once golden blond tresses have turned gray and her dimunitive height makes her seem older than her years.
"Evening Mrs. Barnes. How are you?"
"Fine, darling. Your parents called. They're coming down the first weekend in September for a visit. Don't forget like last time." Han and I share a look. Last time my parents visited was riot. They came during one of my drugs, sex, and rock n roll benders; the apartment was gutted and absolutely trashed. There were naked bodies sprawled everywhere; there wasn't an inch of walking space on the floor. To add insult to injury, I was passed out on a throne of mostly girls in the center of the kitchen. The thousands of dollars in repair and renovation was nothing compared to the hush money given to protect the family reputation.
"I promise I won't forget. Han will remind. And I'm sure you won't allow me to forget." It's part of the reason Mrs. Barnes is here. My parents deemed me to irresponsible to live without supervision. So, they bought out the brownstone and moved Mrs. Barnes here. She lives in the two floors above me and the top floor is just storage. I would have moved to the top but the basement has a private entrance in the back which is a no brainer especially if you don't want your landlady/chaperone telling your parents your comings and goings.
"Alrighty, I won't keep you girls. I'll see you girls at Sunday dinner."
"Night." Hannah and I say in unison. We continue down the steps to the apartment. As usual, I open the door and Perry dances between our legs. He lavishes more attention on Hannah than me but I'm not too bothered. She does spoil him. Well, she spoils us. Speaking of, Hannah gets Perry sorted while I set up the Playstation 3 and open a couple of beers.
"Ready to get knocked the fuck out?" I ask as Hannah sits on the couch beside me with a contented Perry in her lap.
"Please, Cotto has nothing on Pac-Man. Get ready to eat the mat." Hannah threatens as we start up Fight Night Champions. In the first three rounds, I let Hannah lead on the boards. I only counter punch and dodge making Pac-man run down his stamina leaving him open to future knockouts.
"Why you keep running, pussy?" Hannah whines.
"All part of my strategy." I dance around Pac-Man throwing power jabs to his body. The knockout punch surprises Hannah as much as Pac-Man. It was a well executed uppercut followed by a right hook.
"Cheater!" Han shouts.
"Pbbtttt. Sore loser."
"I want play zombies now."
