Draco pestered me for the rest of night for information. As much as I wanted to fill him in, though, I was just as lost myself. Harry's words didn't make any sense to me, and I had just relayed information I had heard. As I laid in bed that night, my head was practically overfilling with possibilities. If the dark lord did have a way of coming back, what did that mean for us? My father used to be a follower of him, so where would that leave the Malfoy family. I tossed in turned for what felt like hours as fear spread through me. Before I knew it, the sun started to spread through my window and I gave up any hope of sleep. I brushed through my hair and made it lay perfectly straight as I slipped on my black headband. I pulled on black tights and a dark green dress as I made my way out of the room. Weekends were our exceptions from wearing robes, and I never took that lightly.
The common room was still pretty deserted as I entered, but that made sense seeing as it was only around 6 in the morning. I sighed as I walked through the halls of the school, trying to distract myself for a while. The great hall wouldn't serve breakfast for at least another hour, and even though the summer was rapidly approaching, the cold air outside made it almost impossible for me to sit under my favorite tree. After process of elimination, I felt myself walking towards the library, which was open earlier now due to exams rapidly approaching.
As I pushed open the large door, I was met with a 'sh!' from the librarian. I wanted to say there was no one here anyways, but someone in the corner quickly caught my eye. Granger sat in one of the small desks, her face practically smushed into a book. Honestly, it looked like she hadn't gotten much sleep either. Most of my brain was telling me to find a new place to study, but the smallest part of me pressed on to talk to her. I didn't know why, but eventually I found myself standing right next to her.
"Um, hi." I said quietly.
She jumped up from her seat, obviously startled to see that she wasn't alone.
"Embry! Sorry I didn't see you. I didn't think anyone else would've been up this early."
"Couldn't sleep. A night in the forbidden forest really doesn't constitute happy dreams, ya know. What class are you working on?" I asked her.
"Oh it's not for a class. After I didn't know how to block the blast-ended skrewt I vowed to myself I would look up more protective charms. Professor Quirrel is great but.."
"Oh please, he's the biggest scaredy cat at this school. It's no wonder we barely know any good spells." I finished for her. "Found anything useful?"
She smiled a little bit before turning the book to face me. If my father ever found out I was conversing was a muggle born he would probably throw me out quicker than I could say pureblood, but Granger wasn't nearly as bad as I thought she would be.
"Petrificuous Totalus. It petrifies any opponent you may have."
"Yeah, that would've been helpful last night." I joked.
She started to laugh as well, which earned us a dirty look from Pince.
"Mind if I study with you? Only until the great hall opens up and then I'll get out of your hair." I asked her.
She nodded her head as I pulled a book from one of the shelves and started to indulge myself. Today I was working on history of magic, because that class was so painfully boring that I would be surprised if I even made decent marks on that exam. As the hour ticked on, a few people started to trickle in and I knew it was time for me to leave. It wasn't as if I was embarrassed to be with her, I just knew it wasn't a good look for either of us. I quickly said goodbye as I put the book back and left the library without even a glance back.
