The sorting was painfully boring. It had been much more exciting when we had been the ones getting sorted, but now as kids I didn't care about kept getting called up to the stage, my stomach started to get louder.

      Colin Creevy...

      Luna Lovegood...

      Ginny Weasley...

The names seemed to be never ending, but my attention did begin to heighten as the Weasley girl walked up. There was a sort of nervousness in her eyes, and I could feel that it was more than just the sorting. I noticed the black diary still in her hand, and my stomach churned in a different way than it had been only moments before.

"Embry." Draco whispered in my ear.

     "What?"

      "Potter and Weasley." He motioned.

I wonder what they could possibly be doing to pull Draco's attention away, but when I turned to look at the Gryffindor table, I was confused to find neither of them sitting there. Granger had been sitting there all by herself, and the worry on her face was unmistakeable.

"Maybe they've finally gotten expelled?" I whispered back with the smallest trace of hope in my voice.

He smirked at my words before I heard the hat scream 'GRYFFINDOR' for the last time that night. The whole hall erupted in cheers, but most of us were just ready for the feast to begin. I eagerly awaited for the food to arrive, but Dumbledore raised his hand as he made his way to the podium.

"Welcome back, students. Congratulations to all our new students, and to those of you who are returning, congrats on surviving the last year at Hogwarts."

A small laugh went up throughout the hall.

"That being said, I feel that it's time to make the rules nice and clear. There will be no going out after curfew, no entering the forbidden forest and no fighting with your fellow classmates."

Maybe it was my imagination, but I could've swore he sent a stare to Granger, and then turned to deliver the same one to Draco and me. Though he might've had a point about us breaking curfew and fighting with our classmates, it was entirely his fault that we went into the forbidden forest.

"But I'm sure you're tired of hearing my old man rambling, so let the feast begin!"

The table filled with hams, mashed potatoes, fish and chips, and any other food you could possibly think of. My mind practically went blank at all the happiness I was feeling. My best friends were by my side, Potter and Weasley were nowhere to be seen and I was away from my dad. What could possibly go wrong?

"I'm stuffed." Crabbe said as he threw himself back into one of the couches.

We sat in the corner of the common room that was mostly secluded from the rest of the house. It had two long, green velvet couches, and was right next to one of the windows that peered into the lake. It was a bay window that I had quickly claimed as my own. It wasn't nearly as comfy as the couches, but looking into the lake brought a sense of calm over me. The cool touch of the window made me feel grounded, and the view was always a plus.

"What classes do we have tomorrow?" I asked as I stretched out my legs.

"Transfiguration, Herbology and Defense Against the Dark Arts." Draco answered.

"Please tell me we're not with Gryffindor again this year."

"Only for Defense Against the Dark Arts, I think."
