"You're going to be late!" I heard my mother ring throughout the manor.

I looked in the mirror and straightened out my nearly white hair. My pale skin was shining back at me in the mirror, and a smile was plastered onto my face. I quickly glanced to the side and saw my trunk that was already packed and ready to go for Hogwarts. I still had a month left to wait, but I couldn't control the excitement that was racing through me. Today, mother and father were finally taking us to Diagon Alley to buy everything we needed, and I could hardly believe it was time.

"Hurry up, Em!" My brother said as he burst through my door.

"Have you ever heard of knocking, Draco?" I asked as I threw one of my headbands at him.

He rolled his eyes as he walked out of my room, leaving the door wide open. Everyone always talks about how lucky I am to be a twin. They say I have a built in best friend, a confidant, but they clearly have never had a twin like Draco. I quickly threw on my shoes as I bounced down the stairs, not letting his rude outburst affect my day.

"Look who finally decided to join us." My father declared as I met him in front of the chimney.

"Sorry." I said, keeping my head down.

"No matter. Draco, you first. Go to the one at Borgin and Burkes, and don't let yourself get dirty. Act with dignity, or you will be walking around in hand me down robes all year."

Draco paled as he said this, but I merely rolled my eyes. I knew my father would never allow us to be seen as anything less than perfection, even if he did make a fool of himself right now. I gave him a small thumbs up, and he responded with the smallest nod of his head. He quickly apparated through the floo network, and then I was up. I put on my brave face, concentrated, and before I knew it, I was right next to Draco in the middle of Borgin and Burkes.

"Nice of you to show up." He sarcastically said.

Thought I wanted to respond, the quickest wave of fear came over me at the sight of his unruly hair and untucked shirt. I quickly brushed his hair down, made his clothes look appropriate, and brushed away any signs of dirt. The second I was done, I heard the chimney bustle with life before my father appeared on the other side.

"Very good Draco. Embry, brush off the dust. You're going to make us the embarrassment of the alley.

"Thanks, Em." Draco whispered into my ear as we left the store.

"Don't mention it," I said as I brushed off the rest of the dust.

I guess people are right sometimes. Draco isn't the best person in the world, but there was no else I would've ever wanted by my side. We stuck up for each other when we needed it, and I couldn't imagine growing up in that house without each other. A world without Draco was unthinkable, and if anything happened to him, I don't know what I would do.

"Any idea if you're bringing an animal?" I asked, trying to get my mind off the horrifying knockturn alley.

"The best owl in the shop." He said, a sneer plastered on his face.

"What if I want the best owl?" I retaliated.

He gave me a playful shove, which made both us laugh.

"Stop playing around, you two. Act responsible."

We pulled away from each other, sadness coming into to each of our steps. It seemed my father never truly liked when we were happy together. He wanted us to show composure and poise, and if that's what he wanted, I wasn't about to argue.
