The alarm continued to blare with its red flashing lights, the man on the PA continued to speak telling everyone to hide or get out of the halls. I was surprised that there weren't a ton of soldiers following us, not that I'm complaining. Jasper, Monty, and Maya followed Bellamy and I down the hallway. We turned a corner, I stayed back to make sure that nobody was coming. Bellamy looked back at me with confusion.
"You guys walk ahead," I said, "I'll stay here to see if anyone comes." Bellamy tilted his head to tell Maya and Jasper to walk ahead, he walked over to me. "You sure?" he questioned. "I'm sure," I replied, "Besides, what's the worst that could happen?" Bellamy chuckled softly and kissed my forehead. "Go," I said, turning him around. He walked down the hallway and followed Jasper, Monty and Maya.
I pressed my back against the wall and pointed my gun at the ground, preparing myself for action. I looked down at my bracelet to check the amount of time we were spending. The sound of glass shattering sounded from the other side of the hallway. I whipped my head towards the sound, slowly walking forward.
I pointed my gun ahead of me and hovered my finger over the trigger. A tall shadow appeared from the wall behind the hallway, I furrowed my eyebrows. Mary Orion walked out of the shadows with a sympathetic smile. My eyes widened, my heart beat against my chest. "Lara," Mary said. My mouth was agape as I looked at my motherly figure. I gulped, trying to calm myself down. Multiple questions were flying through my head at the moment. 'I could either shoot her and everything would be okay. Or I could talk this out with her, but either one of those ideas could result in me and my friends getting hurt,' I thought to myself.
"Mrs. Orion?" I said, "I-I..." She stepped forward, but I kept my gun aimed at the women. Mrs. Orion stood in front of me, holding a hand out. "You can put the gun down, Lara," she said, "There's no need for that." I shook my head, swallowing the lump in my throat. "What're you doing?" She asked. Ms. Orion tilted her head to the left after she asked her question. I scoffed and shook my head at her inquiry. "Saving my friends, from you and your people," I answered, "Why are you even helping them? They're killing my friends, they're killing Cass' friends." I saw her face soften at the sound of her daughters name, but that expression slowly faded away.
"They helped me, Y/N. They found the cure for my illness," she claimed, "They're the ones that kept me alive." I narrowed my eyes at her, stepping backwards. My grip on the weapon tightened as she inched closer to me. "Cass wouldn't want you to shoot her mother, now would she?" Mary said, her gaze shifting towards the weapon. I glanced behind my shoulder in hopes that Bellamy and the others would meet me amid the concrete hallway. I looked back at Mary, my uneasiness resurfacing. Mary narrowed her eyes, her head tilted almost as if she was trying to look at me from a different angly.
"I think she'd make an exception," I countered, "After all, you are killing her friends."
A sinister smile crept onto the women's pale face, the corners of her blush colored lips. The womens fox eyes stared me down, watching as my chest rose up and down in worry. She edged closer to me with her arms at her side. "How do they treat you?" she asked bluntly. Mary now stood a good distance from me, enough for her to take the gun away from my shaking hands. The feeling of regret settled at the bottom of my stomach. 'I should've stayed with Bellamy,' I thought. Low sounds of footsteps sounded from behind me. My heart jumped in excitement at the idea of my friends standing behind me, but that feeling washed away at the sighed of the Mountain Men positioned at the end of hallway.
Mary held up a hand, telling the guards to not go with their assignment. The black haired women rose up an arm and slowly took the gun from my grip as I froze in shock. She looked back up at me with the same menacing smile. "Your friends? How do they treat you?" Mary asked, dropping the gun beside her. A man from behind Mary walked forward and picked up the weapon from the ground. Cass' mom waved him off, motioning the man to stand back. "Do you they know what the council decided?" she continued, answering my inner thoughts.
