Remus stuffed as much food as he could into his pack while trying to remain as quiet as possible. It was dark and he only had a small candle to light his way through the castle.

He put the bag on his back and snuck down the hall. He stopped a moment and looked at the decorative knight's armor standing on the side of the hallway, trying to come up with a plan.

As quietly as he could, he grabbed the morning star the knight was holding. It was a bit heavy but nothing Remus couldn't handle. He slung it onto his shoulder and turned to continue down the hall when he was stopped.

"What do you think you're doing?" a voice hissed from behind him, making Remus freeze.

He turned around with a false smile and opened his arms, well arm since he was still holding the morning star. "Patton! It's so nice to see you. What ah- what are you doing up so late?"

"Well I'm trying to do my job as a guard and knight and protect you and your family," Patton answered with a slight growl of frustration.

"And you've done a splendid job of that so far." Remus rolled his eyes.

Patton was taken aback for a moment, slightly hurt by the remark. "I-I know I could have done better when-"

"When my brother was kidnapped? Oh but that's alright, I'm going to find him."

"You know you can't, the king and queen have both told you to stay here in the castle until we get word of Roman's whereabouts."

"If we don't do something then we might never see him again! We can't just wait for a ransom letter to appear."

"Remus, this is crazy-"

"Crazy is my middle name. And I'm going to save my brother. So, either you let me leave or I'm going to have to knock you out." Remus grabbed the morning star with both hands, ready for a fight.

Patton sighed, "You know you're holding that wrong, right?"

"Uh... yes?"

"Fine, third option. I'm coming with you."

"Wha- really?!"

"Shh! Don't be so loud! Do you want to get caught before you can even step foot out of this castle, again?"

"Right, sorry." Remus put his hand over his mouth, then smiled again. "Thanks Pat, you're the best."

"Go out to the stables and wait for me there, I'll grab some supplies of my own and I'll meet you out there."

Remus nodded enthusiastically and ran off to the stables, trying to be as quiet as possible. Once there, he quickly hid just in case Patton was actually off to get backup to stop him.

After a few minutes, Patton came in with a bag on his back. Probably his own supplies.

"Remus?" he whispered.

"Right here!" Remus jumped out from inside an empty stable, startling Patton.

"Any louder and we'll both be in deep trouble."

"We'll be fine. Now let's hurry up before the sun rises!"

After waking up the horses and saddling up, Patton brought Remus and the horses to an area that he knew had a blind spot and they left the castle grounds.

"Okay," Patton said once they were out of sight, "where are we going?"

"I... actually have no idea," Remus admitted.

"Wait did you not have a plan?"

"I honestly didn't think I would make it this far!"

"Well the first thing we have to do is investigate, we need to figure out who kidnapped Roman and that will lead us to where he is."

"How can we figure out who kidnapped him?"

"Create a list of suspects? Maybe we could hire a detective?"

"How much money do we need to do that?"

"How much do we have?"

"I took some money from the treasury..."

"Well it does belong to your family, how much did you take?"

"A few gold and silver pieces, I wasn't sure how long it was going to take."

"Hopefully it's enough."

"It's going to have to be, cause I'm not going back home without my brother."
