TW: poison, mentions of torture, blood, pretty much just Virgil not having a great time

"Ah, so your boyfriend made it back in one piece," Elliot teased Logan.

Logan felt his face go red and Patton just giggled.

"Nice to see you too, Elliot," Patton greeted.

"Good to see you're okay. So, I assume you're here to help with the rebellion?"

"Well, I should take the princes back home and keep them away from danger. But then again I shouldn't even be in this nation and shouldn't have followed Prince Remus here. Plus, neither prince seems like they're ready to come home just yet."

"Yeah, probably not."

"So, what's the plan?"

"Oh, uh pretty much just head to Alec's place and attack. We have several weapons ready and it's just a matter of getting there and getting in. I have a feeling Alec isn't getting out of this alive."

"Huh, I wonder why," Logan commented, looking back at Janus who was talking with the twins and Cynthia.

"Oh, Captain Janus is amazing. He's given us plenty of information and support. His crew has a lot of experience with fighting too, so they're going to be a big help."

"Yeah, he's been planning on killing Alec for over half a year now," Patton laughed. "I don't really condone murder but I understand where he's coming from. What time are we leaving?"

"In a few hours. We have people getting ready, weapons being made, escape routes being checked over. Several boats are prepared a few miles from here on a beach in case we need to abandon this town entirely, but I have a feeling everyone will be fighting tooth and nail to avoid that. Kids are on the boats just in case, we don't want the young getting hurt in this and we don't know how Alec will respond to this if we fail."

"That's good. I hope everyone gets out of this okay, I know how horrible it is to lose someone in battle."

"Yeah, well right now all we can do is wait. I brought some food from the bakery if you want to eat before the fight."

Virgil couldn't move. There were so many reasons why, Virgil wasn't sure which one was more worrying. The shackles, the injuries, or worse yet the poison.

It was probably the poison since he could hardly twitch his fingers and his hands weren't hit at all during the beating he received for running away.

Alec had his men hold him still as he managed to force Virgil to drink poison. He had the antidote and told Virgil if Roman gave himself up before the poison killed him, then he'll be saved.

He had passed out at some point from the pain while they tortured him, but before then Roman had managed to figure out how to use the mindlink. Virgil managed to show him where they were taking him, but now he was starting to wonder if that was the right thing to do.

What could Roman do? Yeah someone had saved him, but who? And would they really be able to save Virgil? He would just be caught and who knows what Alec would do to him then. Virgil would never see him again.

Virgil tried to blink the tears away but it was hard to even do that. It felt like his body was burning up from the poison and he felt weak and nauseous. He was so vulnerable, it scared him.

He wanted... no he needed Roman. He needed Roman there with him. He so desperately wanted the comfort, he wanted Roman to hold him, to run his hand through his hair.

They were safe, what happened? They were finally safe even if Virgil was sick, Roman said he would protect him. What went wrong?

"R-Ro... R-Rom-m-man-n..." Virgil tried to weakly call, but it was so quiet that not even the guards could hear just outside his cell.

Virgil tried to move but he could only close his fist, at least he hoped he did, he didn't know because his fingers were numb. It was hard to breathe, and he wasn't sure if it was because of the bruised or broken ribs or the poison.

The only thing he could do was whimper quietly in pain and sorrow. Tears were falling from his eyes but he didn't care. He was so so scared.

And it only got worse when he heard footsteps coming. He wished so desperately that it was someone coming to save him, that he managed to be passed out for that long, but he wasn't hopeful. Just desperate.

Of course, when the door opened it wasn't Roman, or any kind face, on the other side. It was Alec.

Alec smiled when he saw the broken witch on the floor. The cement under him was stained with blood smears and drops from being kicked or punched or burned or whatever else they did to him. Virgil himself was covered in several injuries and even Alec could tell he was having trouble breathing.

He kneeled down next to Virgil's head and smirked. "So, do you regret running away now?"

Virgil tried to growl but it only came out as a pathetic whimper.

Alec couldn't help but chuckle. "For your sake, I hope your Prince Charming comes soon. It doesn't look like you'll last much longer. But, if I lose you both, that's fine. There is another prince from Drenland that I can use."

Virgil could only glare at Alec, his tongue was too heavy and speaking took too much energy.

"I just came down here to look at my masterpiece. I wonder, when you die, if I send your head to my king, would I be rewarded for killing a witch? There aren't many people that tolerate witches, or places for that matter, though I'm sure you already know that." Alec's eyes trailed over to Virgil's exposed feet and he stared at the burn scars; ignoring the gashes that were cut there for running away. "I wonder, are you afraid of fire?"

Virgil managed to let out a small growl.

"I suppose it doesn't matter, you can't move and if your prince doesn't come to save you soon, you're dead. It's hard to believe he just left you like that, I guess he really doesn't like you."

"Sh-sh-ut-t... u-up," Virgil managed to say.

"Oh? You can still talk, can you? That's a surprise, very impressive. Can you move at all?"

Virgil glared at Alec, he really wanted to punch the jerk.

"No, I suppose you can't. That's good, that makes this much easier."

Alec pulled out a cloth and stuffed it in Virgil's mouth, he then pulled out rope and tied it around Virgil's head, successfully gagging him. Every touch burned Virgil, it was too hot for him.

"We wouldn't want you calling out for anyone in case your prince somehow manages to sneak in here. And since you can't move, I know you won't be able to sneak out on your own, so there's no need for guards just outside your cell door. There are, however, plenty of guards patrolling the catacombs. I don't think your prince would be able to get very far if he's planning on breaking you out. You're stuck with me, and I don't plan on letting you go this time. Good luck with the poison, you're going to need it."

Alec was right, everything burned because of the poison. His clothes were too hot and itchy, the iron shackles burned him, even the cold concrete was warm to the touch. His injuries made it worse, he felt each and every one of them. He groaned in frustration, he was just getting better!

He knew it was selfish, but he wanted Roman there with him. He wanted the comfort, he needed it. He needed Roman.
