TW: a whole lot of violence, blood, and impalement, so I guess gore (don't play with arrows, kids!), arguing, passing out from both exhaustion and blood loss, I don't know what else to put, but boy does Virgil and Roman have fun!

"Go!" Virgil urged as he took aim at the three guards that caught them.

Roman jumped out of the window as Virgil shot three arrows before following. The arrows were deflected off of their armor but there was enough force to make the guards unbalanced and slowed them down.

Virgil raced after Roman, both of them running towards the woods. He heard several shouts behind them and turned to see they were being chased. It was too dark to count how many guards there were or where they were coming from, but it was enough for Virgil to know they were in trouble.

Arrows darted past Virgil and Roman as they were shot at, startling both of them.

"Keep going!" Virgil shouted as he turned around and took aim.

He shot at the closest guards, hitting them in the head but since they were wearing helmets it only knocked them out.

"Virgil come on!" Roman called, stopping near the tree line.

Virgil reached for an arrow, only to realize he ran out. He threw the crossbow at the closest guard, hitting them in the face, and turned to run.

He caught up in no time and they ran into the woods, but the guards didn't give up chasing them. They would have to hide somewhere and lose their trail.

Arrows continued to whiz past them, some getting stuck in trees and some getting stuck in the ground. Roman and Virgil weaved through the trees and brush, but neither left the others line of sight.

Virgil was starting to get hopeful, it seemed like they were out running the guards, maybe they could make it this time! This time could be different, they'll both-

His thoughts were cut off by a scream. His heart leapt to his throat as he turned to Roman and saw him fall. An arrow was sticking out of his left shoulder and he cried in pain.

"No!" Virgil shouted, rushing over to Roman.

Roman was already losing consciousness, but he was not dead. Virgil wasn't going to give up. He's going to make sure that both of them come out of this alive this time.

Arrows still came and the guards were in view. They were shouting though it was all muffled to Virgil's ears. His heart was pounding and he panicked as he picked Roman up and put him on his back.

He ran as fast as his legs could carry him but Roman was slowing him down, the guards were catching up. They weren't going to make it. They couldn't... unless...

Virgil looked up to the sky and thanked whatever celestial being there was in this world that it was a full moon. He focused as he drew as much power as he could and ran into the shadows.

One second they were in the forest being chased down, the next they were farther into the forest but hidden in a cave.

Virgil collapsed from exhaustion and black creeped into the corner of his eyes. He tried to shake himself awake but he was dizzy from using so much magic and energy without his amulet. His legs burned and he gasped for air as he tried to catch his breath, but they were safe.

Well, almost. Roman groaned in pain and Virgil's anxiety spiked again. Roman was shot! He could die!

Virgil looked around for anything he could use to help Roman but they didn't have much. He tore off a backpack strap and laid Roman down on his stomach. Virgil put his cloak under Roman's head as a pillow and took the backpack strap and surrounded the arrow with it.
