This felt like a good choice originally but now you weren't so sure.

You stood facing Killer, eyeing the intimidating set of arm guards he wore as he snapped the blades that attached to them in place. The rest of the crew, including Kid, had formed a large circle around you two, giving you ample space to fight.

Killer shifted from side to side, rolling his head around to loosen himself up while you brushed your fingers along the pouch strapped to your right outer thigh. When you weren't in your werewolf form you were in control, but you didn't have the strength your wolf form boasted. When the curse first made its appearance, you knew you'd need to learn other ways to protect yourself and you'd done just that. You weren't joking when you told Kid you were tough.

"Whenever you're ready." Killer nodded towards you.

You didn't need to give him a heads up when you lunged forward, you'd take any chance to win that you could and getting the first move might be exactly what you needed. You'd practiced the motions enough that you'd managed to reach into your bag and throw its contents at the massacre soldier before he could get into a full defensive position.

Metal flashed towards him and he quickly sidestepped, raising one of his blades to deflect your attack. You knew he'd be fast but he made it look effortless. He glanced over his shoulder and then focused back at you.

"Knives? I hope you have enough to keep up."

You hoped so too.

Next thing you knew, it was like you blinked and he was in front of you. His blades had begun to spin and you knew they'd cut through flesh and bones easily if given the chance.

All you had to do was prove that you could avoid getting slaughtered by Killer. But you bet you'd gain some points for doing more along the way.

He came down on you with a single blade and you snatched a new dagger out of the pouch in time to block his attack. The blades you carried were small but strong. The one in your hand met his blade solidly and you let out a grunt as he forced you down to a knee. You grabbed a second knife and swiped it across his exposed stomach in a flash. Halfway through, his second blade stopped it.

"Speedy, aren't you?" He let out a small huff and you couldn't help but smile. He hadn't planned on you actually being able to nick him.

There was a thin line of red that seeped out of his fresh wound, through the sliced shirt. It was shallow but you were still proud of landing a hit on him.

He pushed against your knives harder and instead of pushing back, you dropped. Metal sung a hairsbreadth above your head and you kicked out at the back of his legs, sending him off balance enough for him to almost lose his footing completely.

There was a chorus of groans from the men watching, sucked into how closely matched you two seemed to be.

"Killer!" Kid barked. "Quit fucking around!"

Killer backed off from you and wiped his fingers along his cut, rubbing the blood between them. "Had to get warmed up. I think I'm ready now."

And with that, you felt what confidence you'd gained so far begin to wither away. A more serious, intimidating aura seemed to radiate from him and you knew you were in for it.

You quickly took note of your knives. One was halfway across the deck, still out in the open but hard to get to. Two more were in your hands and there were five more in your pouch. Well, four that you'd be willing to use, you wouldn't risk the fifth in this fight.

Once again, you lunged forward. Discouraged or not, you needed Kid to see you were worth keeping around, and not just because you wanted off the island. You wanted to understand why you felt such an intense urge to be near him.
