Luck was on your side today.

A little before you were supposed to be relived from the crow's nest, you spotted it. At first, you almost missed the tiny dot on the horizon but the longer you stared at it, the more visible it was and the more it took shape. An island.

You looked down at the deck of the ship. Kid was still gone, probably in the kitchen with Killer, so you had no problem shouting down at one of your next options.

"Heat!"

The blue haired pirate craned his neck to look up at you questioningly.

"There's an island ahead! We're practically heading straight to it!"

He looked out in the presumed direction but it was still too far off to see it from down there.

"You sure?" He asked.

"Positive!"

He nodded, motioning for you to come down while simultaneously nabbing the nearest man by the scruff and pushing him towards the mast. Great, you were being relieved now.

You shimmied down fast, passing your replacement and hitting the deck with a bounce in your step. Spotting an island might earn you some points with Kid and maybe even be enough to lift his foul mood.

"How long do you think until we reach it?" Heat continued when you stood in front of him.

"At this pace? Not long. An hour, max."

"Good. We could all use some dry land under our feet. Stay put, I'll inform Killer."

You wanted to object but the way he clenched his jaw and steeled himself before going towards the dining room made you rethink that. If he was so tense about having to see Kid as he was, a seasoned crewmate, you weren't about to risk it. But that didn't mean you were actually going to stay where you were.

As nearby crew began to rouse themselves after hearing about an island, you slipped past the many bodies to reach the dining room doors, waiting patiently nearby. You doubted you'd catch wind of the conversation happening further in but you were hopeful.

It was silent past the door for a while and you assumed that was a good thing. At the very least it meant no one was getting bloodied up. After a few minutes, you heard what had the be the men leaving the kitchen and walking towards the deck. Three sets of footsteps marching towards you with purpose, accompanied by slightly raised voices as they discussed their new possible destination.

When the door swung open, you were able to step to the side to avoid getting nailed by it but you still managed to catch the men's attention. It was definitely obvious you were trying to hear something.

You grinned sheepishly, mostly at Kid as you noticed his death stare from before had settled more into a discontent glare. He was already beginning to have a better attitude.

"Where's the island?" He growled at you.

You pointed towards the front of the ship. Just past the nose was the now clearly visible island, slowly but surely taking shape as you approached it.

"Good catch." He grunted as he walked towards the front of the deck, Killer and Heat following close behind.

The praise was simple but coming from him, it absolutely made your day. You felt your heart swell with pride and you couldn't help it when your feet guided you to follow behind them, like you were some kind of dog hoping for more attention. You didn't care what it looked like, you'd kill for him to tell you you did a good job again.

When you stood at the railing with them, torn between peering out at the island and glancing up at Kid from your peripherals, you could make out the soft rolls of sand covered hills and feel the intensifying heat. It had to be a desert island, you could already tell that much.
