You glanced around to get a better gauge on your own crew. Most of the lower ranked men were hugging the rails of the ship, vying for the attention of the marines. Heat, Wire, Killer, and Hayate stood back behind them, watching quietly like the imposing figures they were, weapons loosely at the ready. But you couldn't find Kid, that was until he came up beside you, placing a heavy metal hand on your shoulder.

"It looks like your real test came around faster than we thought it would."

"Real test?" You didn't realize the one with Killer didn't count.

"You can fight but I need you to be able to kill." He grinned at you fiendishly. "Slaughter a few for me."

You didn't get it, but between the smile and the heartless statement, your heart managed to skip a beat. You watched him wander off to meet up with Killer, all the while trying to gather the thoughts he'd managed to scatter in one quick moment.

That was enough time for things to start blowing up. The slurs the pirates shouted at the marines grew louder as the enemy cannons shot off. You instinctively flinched at the sound and grabbed for your pouch, not like a knife could do anything against a cannonball. But apparently Kid could take care of them just fine.

He raised his flesh arm in the air and shouted a single command. "Repel!"

And before the cannonballs could even touch the ship, they jerked to a stop and were sent flying back the way they'd come. You'd heard about his devil fruit ability but only rarely. It had completely slipped your mind that he could control metal. You were glad he didn't have you take him on in a fight, Killer seemed tame compared to him.

Wood splintered off the marine ship and either fell to the dark waters below or went flying back towards your ship in small pieces. Kid roared with laughter while the marines scrambled to repair the holes before water could begin seeping in. Their confidence was already beginning to waiver.

Your ship lurched closer as more cannon balls came your way, their lesson from the first time going unlearned. Their ship was slowly peppered with more holes than they could keep up with and you could see them taking on water despite their best efforts.

When the ship stopped beside the marine one, you could see the fate of the enemy begin to dawn on them. Their faces fell in despair and weapons were now held with trembling hands. A few sets of eyes flicked to the railing on the other end, the men contemplating jumping over and trying their luck with the monsters below the water as opposed to the ones above. You didn't blame them, it was going to be a one sided slaughter.

You jumped over to the marine ship with the first wave of pirates and were quick enough to earn the first kill. As soon as you were halfway over, your fingers found your first dagger and had launched it at the closest marine, the blade sinking dead center into his throat. His eyes widened and before he could fully process what had happened, he clawed at the blade and pulled it out, blood pouring out immediately. He stumbled to his knees, dropping the knife to his feet with a noisy clatter, and then it was utter chaos.

You scooped the knife back up in time after getting on board to avoid it being trampled underfoot. It was a sturdy blade but you weren't about to test it under the weight of the larger men. Plenty of them towered over you and you were sure they were no lightweights. Guns went off and men cried out as the bullets hit their targets. Blades flashed under the moonlight and created archs of blood that splashed acrossed the wood surfaces and many writhing bodies. There were so many people trying to fight on the same ship that you could hardly go two steps without bumping into someone.

But it let you kill fast.

You stuck to one knife in each hand, slashing at exposed skin and aiming for throats, eyes, and whatever else was in reach that would take down the marines. You had to hand it to them, even with their ship sinking right under their feet, they kept some semblance of military order while fighting, at least at first. The first wave of attacks ruined their neatly organized formations fast and as soon as bodies started dropping, they just wanted to get you off their ship.
