The Island with Everything

Heat had mentioned the next stop would be somewhere special but you weren't quite sure what he meant by that until you arrived. He seemed excited for it, him and the rest of the crew. Even Kid had an excitable air around him as you approached the island. And you could see why.

It was like one giant, bustling marketplace. Masses of people moved through packed streets, going from vendor to vendor, examining such a variety of goods that you couldn't find the words to describe them. Everything from food to tools to even entire ships looked to be available to purchase. Past all that, you could see the buildings that steadily rose, the tallest ones furthest from the shore. Many of them had large tapestries and paintings covering them, announcing deals and products in such colorful, fantastic ways that you could hardly take it all in.

Like the rest of the higher-ups, you'd been given a handful of berries to spend on whatever you pleased and now that you'd had a look at your options, you weren't sure if you could pick any one thing to settle on.

But while you'd managed to get caught up on the crew's excitement for the chance to explore, buy, and possibly steal, there was one thing that loomed in the back of your mind, nagging at you and filling you with worry. You'd now been on the ship for three weeks.

You only had days until the next full moon and you could feel it creeping up on you. At night, your skin crawled and you were becoming steadily more restless. You'd been asking for more night shifts in the crows nest since you couldn't sleep for shit anyway. And you were scared.

You'd hoped on keeping your distance from the crew until after your first shift but that's proved to be more difficult than you thought. Hayate and you had gotten quite friendly and because he was close with Heat, the sullen man had been spending plenty of time with you as well and had grown on you. You'd learned to seek out Wire's company when you wanted to relax while still having someone to be near.

Cooking with Killer was therapeutic. You would often get lost in the monotony of cutting vegetables or frying something up for him, all the while sharing life stories, usually the good ones. He didn't let many other people in the kitchen when he was cooking so you had plenty of time to learn personal things about each other and against your better judgement, become friends.

And then there was Kid. Any time spent with him was the highlight of your days. You'd mostly either discuss plans for future islands or bullshit about absolutely nothing. But you loved it. The way he'd smile, laugh, or even get snappy. It was all you could focus on sometimes and you indulged in his presence whenever the opportunity arose. If anyone else notice how stuck on him you were, nothing was said.

But now you were scared of the coming time when they'd witness your shift and how it'd go. You'd been assured by multiple crewmates often enough that it'd be fine but it was their confidence that had you doubtful. They'd never seen you during a full moon and didn't really understand it, no matter how much you tried to explain. You were always brushed off and told not to worry. And as much as you were beginning to care for the crew, their lack of caution frustrated you.

For the time being though, you'd enjoy your time on the island. It'd be a welcome relief from your thoughts and give you time to look for something you'd been debating on getting, or checking out at the very least.

"(Y/n)!" Hayate bounced over and nudged at you with a sharp elbow. "Heat, Wire, and I are going to find a good bar when we dock, wanna join?"

"Sounds fun but no thanks, I've actually got plans."

"Whaaaaaat?" He pouted as he leaned against a nearby mast. "What's so important that you'd ditch us for it?"

"I gotta do some shopping." You explained casually.
