The crew didn't know whether to laugh or cringe.
Coming back to the ship was great. You and Kid collapsed on a couple crates that were left on the deck as makeshift seating and neither of you could contain your laughter from your little thieving stunt. You'd spent enough time helping him find usable pieces of metal to replace the more worn ones on his prosthetic arm, enough so that the majority of the crew had come back for the evening in hopes of dinner. It was then that you finally pulled out the seastone, holding it out to Kid and asked the question that left the crew in confused awe.
"Can you tell me how pure this is?"
Kid stared at you like you had some kind of mental handicap while everyone else around had stopped in their tracks and shut up to see how it'd play out. No one ever suggested he touch seastone, no one was even brave enough to chance bringing it on the ship. And then there was you.
It felt harmless in your hand, just a smooth, teardrop shaped stone that layed heavy in your palm. It was highly polished, to the point that it was almost mirror like, and had a small hole going through its pointed top, obviously meant to be strung up as a piece of jewelry. To the untrained eye, it was just a rock. A pretty one, but a rock nonetheless.
To Kid and every other devil fruit user in existence, it was nothing short of deadly. But here you were, holding out his weakness and asking him to touch it.
"Are you touched in the head?" He finally spoke out, glaring at the stone in the palm of your hand. "No, I'm not putting a single fucking finger on that. You should feel lucky that I even let you bring that on my damn ship."
"Look," You sighed. "the full moon is in a couple days and I just need this as a bit of insurance. I don't know if a devil fruit cursed me or not but if it did, this might make me more manageable during my shift."
"I've told you-"
"I know. You guys say you can handle it, handle me, but at least let me have this. I'll be less worried about it."
Kid stared it down once again, this time with the conflict written all over his face.
"I just need to know it's density so I can figure out how effective it'll be if it does work. I can find something to string it up on myself from there."
"Fine." He snapped. "But only this once, I'm not touching it a second time."
You smiled as you held it out further for him and he gingerly reached out with his flesh hand and laid his fingers on it. The stone wasn't very big, maybe the size of a small bird's egg. So in reality, his fingers brushed against it, settling on top and resting in your hand as well.
You'd noticed it before on the other rare occasion that he'd touched you; how calloused his fingertips were from years of work and time at sea, the warmth that came off of him in waves, how gentle he was when he chose to be. And every time you had to fight yourself not to let out an overwhelmed gasp or touch him back. Instead, you settled for fidgeting on the crate and trying to look anywhere but at your captain.
But it was hard not to when he let out a strained groan. You glanced up at his face to see the porcelain white of his skin had taken on a more sickly tone, his mouth fell into an uncomfortable frown, and his eyes seemed drained of any and all energy.
And then as quickly as he'd touched it, he pulled away, shaking his hand like it'd help calm the lingering effects faster.
"I don't know numbers," He said through grit teeth, a clear strain to his voice. "but that's intense for such a small piece. I'd say if you think it'll help, you took a good one."
