After spending an hour staring at the dress on her bed and thinking about whether or not to go to the ball, Isla found herself standing in the driveway outside of the Mikaelson house. She looked around at the crowd of people walking into the house, and a shiver ran down her spine. She took a deep breath and brushed her dress.

She didn't want to attract any attention yet, so she waited until the doors to the house were closed before walking up the stairs. Isla pressed her ear to the door so that she could hear what they were saying inside.

"Welcome. Thank you for joining us." She heard a voice boom, and she recognized it to be Elijah's. "You know, whenever my mother brings our family together like this, it's tradition for us to commence this evening with a dance." Isla scoffed. Esther could say that she brought the family together, but she, Elijah, and Isla knew the truth.

"Tonight's pick is a centuries-old waltz, so if all of you could please find yourselves a partner, please join us in the ballroom." Isla cracked the door open just enough so that she could see her siblings walking down the enormous staircase and into the next room. Esther was nowhere to be seen.

The music started, and Isla walked into the now empty foyer. She could hear the shuffling of footsteps in the next room, and the sound started to overwhelm her. She brought her hand to her forehead to steady herself so that the room wouldn't start to shake. This, she thought to herself, was a mistake. So, Isla turned and walked out of the house.

As soon as she stepped outside, she had to run to the nearest tree to keep herself from freaking out and destroying the house. She placed her hands on the tree and closed her eyes, trying to slow her rapid breaths.

After a few minutes, her heartbeat and her breathing returned to normal. She was able to take a look around her and saw that people were flocking outside. Right by the nearest horse and carriage was a blonde girl, and Klaus. They seemed to be having a conversation, and not long after she spotted them, the blonde walked back into the house.

Klaus looked around the property, and Isla had to hide behind the tree to make sure that he didn't see her. Eventually, Klaus headed back inside. Isla ducked out from behind the tree, and started to walk around the property, staying in the trees so that she wouldn't be noticed.

Eventually, she noticed a set of windows. Inside the room were two people. Isla didn't recognize either of them until the woman sat down. Isla gasped. The woman was her mother. She thought she was prepared for seeing her mother again, but just looking at her sent a surge of emotions through her body and memories through her head.

Her mother. The woman who had raised her and her siblings. The woman who supressed Klaus's werewolf side for years, making him the subject of Mikael's rage. The woman who killed most of her children and turned them into bloodthirsty vampires.

The woman who cast a sleeping spell on her youngest daughter to keep her from spilling her secret affair.

Isla clenched her fists as she was filled with rage. How could a mother do that to her own child? Isla was barely more than a child. How? As Isla became more angry, the glass windows started to shake. Esther didn't seem to notice, as she was grabbing the man's hand and chanting.

Isla's rage was boiling now, and it was reflected by the shaking of the room and the windows. Esther stopped chanting and stepped closer to the windows. Isla narrowed her eyes, and the glass shattered. Some of it falling onto the ground, and some of it flying through the room to get stuck in the wall.

Without thinking a second thought, Isla turned on her heels and stormed all the way back to the Salvatore house, the trees swaying as she walked past them. As soon as she got back to her room in the Salvatore house, she slammed the door closed. She sank to the floor, tears streaming down her face.
