HERE you sit, in Bella's truck as the stupid bus was being loaded for a stupid biology field trip that you couldn't go to because you didn't have a stupid permission slip. It was your fault, you had told yourself you'd give it to Charlie later, way too many times. After a little while you just plain forgot. It's not like you were interested in going to stare at some boring plants that you'd have to do an assignment on once you got back. It was just fear of missing out, you supposed.
Bella had just been asked to homecoming by Mike and you could tell her rejection was rushed, improvised, and full of sympathy. She hated the attention that was received by him, but she was in no right mind or place to push him away.
So far, Astrid was your only friend and for some reason, you couldn't find a problem with that even if you tried.
You had become so dependent on her presence in such a short time and you had no interest in pushing her away.
As for this field trip, you couldn't even piece together your morning reasoning for tagging along with Bella on the car ride to school. You were better off staying home, as the field trip would have taken up the majority of the day. You figured that getting out of bed and doing something productive would help your vibe for the day.
You'd never want to admit it out loud, but you also wanted to see Astrid.
You had last minutely planned to sit in the truck, reading your book, letting the silence and boringness consume you. It also gave you a pretty good excuse to call your mom,
You were startled by a tap on the window.
You rolled it down, so lost in thought you hadn't even noticed her walk up to you.
"Hey, why aren't you getting on the bus?" Astrid asked, leaning against the passenger door.
"I dont have my permission slip."
"So, you're gonna sit here and...what? Read?" she asked, clearly not very fond of the idea.
"Yeah, I guess? I need to call my mom too."
"You could ditch the book and come with me."
"Don't you have your permission slip though?"
"We are going to the green plant center, I'm sure I'm not missing out on much," she smiled, opening the car door.
You sat there, narrowing your eyes at her. You weren't sure what gave her the idea that you wouldn't deny her offer. Though the idea was entirely correct.
She playfully rolled her eyes at your hesitation, grabbing the book from you and throwing it in the back seat. Taking hold of your hands, she pulled you from the truck and closed the door.
"I'm not gonna kill you, c'mon. I'll give to time to call your mom too, I promise." she went to pull your arm but you pulled back.
"Wait."
You hadn't left Bella's side ever since you arrived here (other than classes, obviously.) And you were sure Charlie didn't mind where you went, as long as it was safe. But you still had your doubts.
"I have to tell Bella." you breathed out, in an attempt to rationalize your thoughts.
"Bella-" you stopped when you saw Edward standing in front and towering over Bella in height.
