BELLA had been growing distant from you lately, leaving the house constantly to spend time with Edward. You couldn't blame her, you spent most of your time with Astrid & Ryn. Being with them made you happy. And though she couldn't express it much, Ryn's personality was uniquely radiant. She always was able to make you smile and for that, you loved her.

"Haven't seen you in a while." you teased, stripping of your hoodie and flopping onto the bed next to Bella.

"You've been busy." she turned to her side with a smile, raising her eyebrows at you knowingly. "Have fun with Astrid?"

"I'm not with her all the time. And whenever I do have free time you and pretty boy are all around town."

She sighed, "I don't know, Y/n. Edward is just so easy to be around. He doesn't think he is, but when I'm with him everything is natural. I don't have to think about what i say or do." she explained.

"If I didn't know any better, I'd say you were in love."

The silence after that was all you needed. you were happy for her, really.

"I-" but just as you were about to get deeper into conversation, a beep was sounded out from Bella's window. She sat up immediately, looking to see where it came from.

"Edward is here." she spoke almost apologetically.

"it's okay." you said quietly. She nodded, quickly grabbing her jacket and heading out.

You closed your eyes taking a few deep breaths trying to distribute the boredom throughout. soon, you found yourself drifting into the subconscious. That was until your cell began to ring, causing a sharp inhale to be taken as you snapped back into the twilight filtered room.

"Yup. Yup. Who is it?" you groaned in a half sleep state.

"Uh Astrid?" she laughed over the line.

"Sorry." you pinched the bridge of your nose. "I was falling asleep."

"I can tell."

"Sure, you can." you stretched, settling back into place comfortably.

"I know that you just got rid of me but i want to do something, I'm bored." she whined.

"You're always bored."

"It's a boring town."

"Nothing that's been happening lately is boring." your voice settled to a whisper. There was a constant heaviness in your chest. It was unsettling and it didn't help that it never went away.

"What's on your mind?" she asked, with worry in her tone.

You let out a huff. "I... don't know. There's just so much going on, and nothing at the same time. I know something weird is happening here and it all leads back to Jacob, the Cullens... and you. You're all so secretive. Even Bella. I'm caught in the middle of something I'll never understand."

"You already know about me."

"You lied to me. It told me everything was a story, that it was all in my head." She was silent for a moment.

"Honestly Astrid, it's just unreal to think that there are actual mermaids living out here. Not even just out there but walking on land and reading minds. And my first friend being one." You shook your head a little, as if the thoughts would physically ease up.

"I can't give you all the answers. some secrets aren't mine to tell. But I can bring you to Jacob. Maybe he can help you understand a little better than I can." Astrid compromised.
