previously: "y/n, what are you doing here?" alice asked from across the building, standing near the fire. everyone froze except for bella and edward. bella lay on the floor, carlisle kneeled down, applying pressure to a wound on her leg as edward held her wrist, sucking the blood out.

"what is he doing?" you asked in a low voice, although everyone could hear you.

"he's helping her." alice answered, walking over to you. she wrapped her arms around you for comfort knowing you were confused, and she was scared to lose track of you again.

"it doesn't look like it." you shook your head.

alice tapped your shoulder for your attention. "he's cleaning out the blood from something james did. right now we just need him to help her. he loves her, it may be hard but he will stop when we needs to." she hurriedly explained rushing you out of the building. "and when he's done we take her to a hospital. james is dead. you guys are safe now." she finished, sitting you back in the car.

----

BELLA was rushed to the hospital, unconscious by the time edward was done cleaning out the blood. it was scary, seeing her passed out, wound on her leg, dried blood leftover on her wrist. you never thought you'd have to experience such a thing. it was mortifying, scary, concerning. that event piled on top of both ryn and astrid being back in the water for who knows how long. it took everything in you not to burst out in tears next to alice, on the car ride home, where you had to apologize to charlie, when you chose to stay home instead of watch bella be hooked up onto a beeping machine and a collection of wires.

since you decided to head home, you felt incredibly guilty. but renee and edward were there so you knew she was safe. although debate was up between renee and bella about her staying to live in forks (leaving you to feel more guilty), you were wondering if your mom was going to check in anytime soon. it left a twist of worry in your stomach at her sudden disappearance. maybe she was enjoying the time she now got to herself, but then that led you to think about if you had been a bother to her while living with her. she was your mother. she cared. right?

this isn't where your worries had met their end, no. why edward avoided all contact with you once leaving the ballet studio and so on? the moment you even stepped remotely close to him, he backed away. maybe he was feeling overwhelmed, maybe he knew something you didnt. each question you asked yourself was met with an answerless brick wall.

with all these emotions hitting you like a continous tidal wave one by one, the only comfort met was the normal conversation you managed to have with charlie in the time you were home.

he had knocked so quietly you couldn't hear him over your own pounding headache, due to quite literally crying your eyes out. your bed lingered with the scent of ryn and you wondered why, before you noticed she left her sweatshirt nudged under your pillow, and the book you two practiced reading (which you may or may not have cried into, but we don't have to specify that now). you could now make out the very visible tear stains on ryn's sweatshirt and got grossed out with yourself but couldn't stop the tears.

when charlie had knocked again, you gasped, quickly sitting up, shoving the book and sweatshirt back under the pillow and wiping the tears from your face. this left your face burning and red but that didn't stop you from using the fullest of your ability to hide how you really felt. "come in." you rasped after being sure that all was hidden. charlie eased the door open, frown visible on his face.

"i , uh." he struggled to find the words, voice just as monotone as always. "i'm not sure what happened but i'm here to talk if you need it." he offered. there couldn't be any wrong in talking to charlie, but there wasn't much right either. "yeah, i know. thank you." you spoke silently and shot him a tight lipped smile.
