ASTRID regretted leaving you there. one, because it was her job to keep you safe, look after you. and two, she was running to the source of your problem. sure enough you'd be fine with alice, besides, she should be on high alert at this point. it did take a while, arizona didn't have many bodies of water. astrid found herself almost diving into freshwater lakes at one point. finally, she came across a decent sized body of salt water. disregarding the fact that she was fully clothed, she dived in, feeling the clothes soak then rip as she shifted. no matter how many times it happened, no pain would ever compare to that of legs forming together to create a tail, or fingers webbing together, large claws growing from once fragile fingernails.

maybe even the large dorsal fin that sprouted from her back then waist down. and the teeth- gosh, did growing sharper teeth hurt. before she could even process, catch her breath, astrid was smacked to the side, her arm running against something dagger sharp, a small amount of blood seeping from the cut. astrid quickly covered it, scared that a shark would show up as she gave a moment to gain composure. floating through the water before she looked around with blurry vision for the source. when she twirled around she moved back met with another mermaid. cordelia.

"you." the women signed, yet again using that familiar mermaid encryption, learned as babies. "who are you?" astrid remarked back.

"you stay away from my daughter." astrid circled around the figure, taking in the resemblance to y/n which she didn't much notice before.

"you left her." astrid reminded, "i am there to keep her safe."

"you're not doing much of a good job."

"she is in safe hands, you took her away from her home. you set this up for yourself." astrid was getting nervous, but she wasn't going to show it. there was this unspoken rule of the mermaids. if you feel threatened, fight. i kill or you kill.

"y/n can't be exposed to those of our kind." cordelia explained, confusing astrid to that of a great extent. "what do you mean our kind? we are all the same." astrid signed vigorously. how could she not know this, this was her task. assigned for her. "y/n is a clearblood." creatures, mermaids of pure intentions didnt exist by genes anymore. you had to be taught that way, learn how to interact with others without attacking, being on land and being able to blend in.

"those don't exist anymore." astrid denied finally coming to a stop. the tides were becoming higher, she ignored the burning feeling in her abdomen. ryn was having this baby, and she was having it now.

"has she shown any signs of energy manipulation?" cordelia asked knowingly. this is why she sent y/n away. she thought maybe being surrounded by normal humans would change things but so far, she has shown signs of anything but normality. astrid's mind flashed back to transferring her memories to you. how as soon as a single tear had feel from your eyes, that then changed from her ocean blue to your own shade of glowing purple, she tried to pull her hand away, but she couldn't, as if her hand was glued to your head. a raging energy source around it. purple aura waves of what seemed as magic surrounded her hand and she tried snapping you back into reality by simply talking to you but none of it worked.

cordelia took in astrid's horrified look and gave a smug smile. in an instant, she pushed astrid down, swimming to the ocean floor and pining astrid there. she let go of side of astrid to get her last message thorough. he hand waved through the water with her warning. "you let my daughter in this ocean and you will never see her again." before she turned away, disappearing into the wide space.
