"she wanted to talk to you."

"is she okay?"

"she's going back home, y/n. for good."

"WHAT?"

"she's going back to the water, y/n. she can't stay here."

"d-do i get to say bye or anything?" you asked feeling the lump start to form in your throat. suddenly, all those tears you blinked back and wiped off were pooling back heavier.

"we can call her. but it's too much of a risk to see her in person with james tracking us."

"give me your phone." you demanded. she gave you a look of sympathy, but you didnt want it. snatching it from her and clicking on ryn's contact, who's name was first in her recents. the dial rang for a few moments, your legs bouncing in anticipation.

"hello yes?" ryn said through the phone.

"ryn" you sighed out in relief. "hi."

"hello y/n."

you decided to get straight to the point seeing as there was no longer time for stalling. "when do you go back?" you choked out.

"in a few minutes. is not safe for here with vampires. i will have hope in the water. safe for her."

she kept the name that you picked for the baby.

you wanted to tell her to stay so bad, something along the lines of 'dont leave me'. but it wasnt right. ryn has an entire baby inside of her. being so young, it must be putting lots of pressure on her as it is. it wouldnt be right to keep her where it's dangerous just for your needs. she was right, it was safe for both ryn and hope back in the water.

"im really gonna miss you." you choked out, wiping your tears with your sleeve.

"i will miss you too." she sighed. "but, i will see you soon."

"i thought you were staying in the water?"

"hope will stay with her father, learn to survive. i will come back in that time. but... i have to tell you something."

you let out a sad laugh "what is it ryn?"

"you are love for me. i love you."

you froze, bringing the phone away from your ear for a minute. you never thought you would hear her say it, admit it. you loved ryn more than you could imagine- but you had always denied the romantic impact of your emotions.

when you first met her ryn had told you that astrid loved you, you didnt deny that- in a way you loved her too. but with ryn, everything dissapeared. it was you both against the world and not even vampires could penetrate the walls of your love for ryn.

your silence caused ryn to panic, negative thoughts floating through her mind as she hurriedly hung up. "will see you soon, goodbye y/n."

"ryn wait-" but the beeping had already sounded from the other side. you breathed in and out sharply as an attempt to keep the cries at bay. but the minute that you thought about how you didnt get to confess your feelings back- let her know that she was loved as well. how she would go back to the water unsure of where your love stood for her, the tears began to stream down and your breath hitched.
