"y/n, no!" she whispered yelled as an attempt to keep but with a simple swirl of your wrist, alice was pushed back by an unknown energy. she could feel the power it held, and automatically was able to tell that it was completely from you.

jasper pulled her back, letting you walk away. "jasper you dont understand-"

"its just the path. we can stop her another way." he sighed out with the relief of no one catching that.

"no, she's a-"

astrid came back, cheap paper coffee cup in her hand as a pout on her face. "no- what happened?"

"we dont...know."

"do you at least know where bella went?" she asked throwing the coffee in the nearby trash and grabbing your bag off the floor.

"she still hasnt come down." jasper groaned in realization.

"well...at least we know it couldnt get any worse?" alice said as more of a question than a statement.

PHOENIX seemed vaguely unfamiliar to you. you haven't lived here since you were little, traveling up and down to washington every summer to visit charlie. but the echoed harmony of ryn's voice dragged you to the nearest taxi and the nearest ocean.

once there, the sight of the ocean and how close you were too it, brought you to the point of rational thinking again. what were you doing here? how did you get away from alice and jasper in the first place? why did your hands tingle? why did your veins feel like they were flowing with energy? energy that you could feel not maintain. energy that came out of absolutely nowhere.

you stood at the surface of the rocks in which lined the entrance of the beach. the singing had stopped, you were stuck standing here- unsure of what to do next. do you disobey the biggest rule you were given in your life? or do you cross over this metaphorical border and finally see what your mom had tried to keep you away from your entire life?

you stepped onto the rocks, holding your arms out for balance as you jumped from each, reaching the shore. you stood at the line of water for a few more moments. should you just go back? carry out the plan. bella was in danger, you should be with bella right now. just as you turned around the singing came back. you looked out to the ocean, the tide washed up, higher than usual. waves crashing vigorously creating large amounts of sea foam. this is what you were told to stay away from? what could possibly be wrong with this.

the ocean was a beautiful thing, an escape, a resource. you took a few steps forward, feeling just the tip of your sneaker hit the cold salt water. none of it had physically touched your skin yet, but you longed for the feeling, the feeling of water splashing around your hand. to feel what you had been deprived off, locked away from. to feel the home of the one calling out to you at this moment.

the voice became more faint, yet close. almost like if you just...went a little closer she would be there.

ryn sensed it, you walking over a boundary that was well written and forbidden. you listening to that godforsaken call that she had no clue how to stop. it was winded in her system, a tradition since before her time. for a mermaid to call out to her mate, sing to them, invite them to join for the birth of their beloved baby.
