Nova

Ever since my dad had gotten sick I had been trying to keep food on the table and the bills paid. I took over my dad's business years ago when he couldn't do it anymore but I knew I had to get another job to help pay the medical bills. I tried my hardest to keep things going but once the money had run out I was pulling double shifts at work. I wasn't proud of where I worked, to be honest, I hated it.

When my father died, I was left with a debt. Everything I earned from work went towards bills and food to get by but when I did a job for the local biker clubs that went on the debt.

Last night before my car broke down I had spent the whole afternoon cleaning up a house that a biker club used. I had been so tired I literally cried when the car broke down but then Wolf showed up... I knew him from the AA meetings I went to every week. He never spoke and only listened but I guess I did the same thing. It was hard to talk about what happened, I felt ashamed of myself for letting it happen.

I looked into the fridge and showed barely any food in there, I sighed and closed the fridge door. I had to get some groceries today but I needed to get my car to the mechanic. I grabbed my phone and called the number that was on the card.

"Scars repair shop, this is Mel, how can I help you?" The lady answered on the other end of the phone.

"Hi... my car broke down last night, I was wondering if I could get it towed to town and get it looked at!"

"Sure hun" I explained where the car was and what make it was. "No worries one of the guys will go get it for ya. Are you able to meet here at the shop?" She asked me, I bit my lip before answering her.

"Yeah I'll be there shortly"

Two hours later I was off the bus and walking towards the repair shop, I saw my car sitting out the front. I walked into the office to see a woman talking to somebody, she smiled when she looked over the guy's shoulder "I will be right with ya hun" she tells me, I took a seat in the corner as I listened to them talk.

"This piece is ridiculous," the guy says.

"I'm sorry sir, but that is what Allan charged you. He saw many problems and he fixed it." She tells the guy, he sighed and shook his head while pulling out his wallet.

Once he was done I stood up and walked over to the desk. "Hey, I've seen you before," she says with a smile "at the clubhouse" then it finally clicked I was looking at Vermont's charters queen.

"I'm the one that called for a tow"

"Of course, the guys haven't looked at it yet but I'm sure it will be done by the end of the day," she tells me. I sighed looking away.

"I was hoping to get in soon, I have work soon," I told her, she nodded.

"Okay I will get the guys to look at it now for ya" she smiled and offered me a seat before she went out into the garage. My leg was bouncing up and down as I thought over everything. I pulled my long sleeves over my hands as they began to shake. I closed my eyes for a moment as I tried to calm my nerves. Ever since that night, my nerves have been all over the place. I knew I needed to head to an AA meeting soon.

When I heard the bell ring over the door my eyes snapped open, I kept my head down but I was still able to see the boots walk past me. When the person walked past me I looked up to see the Armoured Beasts patch on their leather jacket and that was when Mel walked back inside. "Hey Wolf, what's up?" She asked him.

"I've come to check on the van for the club. Your old man said it should be ready by now" I heard his husky voice, it brought back the memory of last night all over again.

"You can tell the old man it will be done by tomorrow, him and his stupid demands" she mumbled the last bit, shaking her head before looking over at me. "Nova hun, they are about to pull your car into the bay but it's still going to take another hour or two, did you need to do anything right now?" She asked me, when Wolf looked over his shoulder my breath hitched into my mouth and I became tongue-tied so I just nodded my head. "Well then, Wolf here can take you"

"Why?" Wolf asked her.

"Because you and the rest of the guys are annoying me today." She snapped at him, I swallowed hard when I heard him sigh. He pushed off the counter and walked to the entrance of the office, I looked back at Mel and she smiled at me, nodding her head. I sighed and stood up following after Wolf out towards his car.

"Where do you need to go?" He asked once we were sitting inside the car.

"The grocery store" I mumbled.

*******

When I walked into the grocery store I grabbed a basket, I grabbed Milk and Bread along with eggs and cheese. I grabbed a few things from the freezer section before I went to pay for them. All while I did this Wolf stayed outside, smoking a cigarette. I quickly paid for my items and grabbed the bags as I headed out the front door I heard someone call my name. I stopped suddenly, I knew that voice from anywhere. I started to walk again, ignoring him but he just kept calling my name until I reached Wolf.

"You alright?" I looked up when I heard Wolf's voice. I bit my lip and nodded my head.

"Can we just leave… please?" I asked, he looked over my head as he stood 6'2 while I was so short standing at 5'. He nodded his head and put the cigarette with his boot before taking the bags and telling me to get into the truck. I quickly rushed to the passenger side and got in, when I looked towards the store, Jace was standing there staring at me. I jumped when I heard the driver's door slam shut only to realize that it was just Wolf.

When Wolf pulled into my driveway 10 minutes later, I jumped out of the truck and went to unlock my door as Wolf followed me inside with my bags. Once he placed them on my kitchen table, I started to unload them "Who is he?" He asked me as he sat down at the table.

"My ex-boyfriend… it didn't end well…" I looked over my shoulder at him for a second before turning back to what I was doing.

"Is that why you go to the AA meetings?" My breathing was heavy when he asked me, I barely spoke about what had happened because I hated reliving it. I closed my eyes for a moment before I opened them.

"Part of it" I mumbled. I walked back over to the table and grabbed the bags before I put them away. Everything had been clean the day before, I always kept the house like that even if I had no one coming over. When my phone rang I quickly answered it when it was work.

"Nova! I need you to come in early, Sam called in sick" my boss says.

"Um yeah, what time?"

"Now"

"I can't right now, I don't have my car"

"Find a way or you're fired" he snapped at me before hanging up on me. I hung my head and slammed my fist on the counter, jumping out of my skin when I heard Wolf speak.

"Need a ride somewhere?"

"It's just work…"

"Mel sent me a text saying your car is ready," he tells me when he stood up, I sighed in relief and told him I'll be back in a second before I quickly rushed to grab my bag for work. Wolf took me back to the repair shop and I paid for my car before I was able to head to work.
