"Time of death, 2:45 pm," I said clearly as I looked at the clock of the wall opposite me before I looked down at the operating table. A young woman about a few years younger than me had been brought in from a car accident, she had been hit by a truck that had run a red light and T-boned the car that the woman was driving. She had been awake at the scene but with internal bleeding and trapped inside until the firefighters could pull her free, it was getting to the point that the young woman was slowly dying. The truck driver had survived with only minor injuries.
I walked out of the room, I pulled everything that had blood on it before throwing it away in the bin. I walked over to the sink and scrubbed my hands and arms clean. In the few years I had been a doctor only a few people had died on me but it still never gets easy, my hands shook as I scrubbed my hands and arms, swallowing hard I sighed again since I had come out of that room.
All I could think about was her family. I stared at the water that flowed down into the silver sink as I leaned against it with my head down. You could feel the tension in the room, the sadness. I shook my head before turning off the water and grabbed the paper towels on the side of the wall, I sighed once again and walked out of there but stopped halfway down the hall and leaned against the wall. I wiped the lone tear away before I sucked it up and pushed through the swinging doors heading towards the ER waiting area, looking for her family.
"Shelly Sandez?" I called out, I saw an elderly couple stand up with a man who held a baby in his arms. I swallowed hard once more when I saw their faces, I met them halfway before I introduced myself. I saw their faces begging for answers, each of their faces held unshed tears but as soon I announced that I was 'sorry' their tears fell.
"How? No one has told us what had happened to my wife" the man says who was holding the sleeping baby.
"She was driving and a truck had run the red light, T-boned her. It took the emergencies about 30 minutes to an hour to free her but within that time, Shelly was suffering from internal bleeding." I tell the family, making them cry even more. I looked towards the young man once more "Did you happen to know that she was 10 weeks pregnant?" I asked him, he stared at me with wide eyes but slowly shook his head no.
"She was pregnant?" He mumbled as I nodded my head yes.
"I am very sorry for your lost, please if you have any questions, don't hesitate to call"
Once I was done speaking with the family, I slowly walked to my office after grabbing a coffee along the way. I rolled my shoulders as I sat in my chair, leaning back I placed my palms into my eyes and groaned, I knew what was to come when I became a doctor. I sighed, grabbing my coffee, drinking it before looking at the time. I grabbed my white coat and walked to the nurse's station just outside my office telling them that I will be down in the ER.

Emergency after emergency came through the doors of the hospital, I had prepped into surgery several times throughout the afternoon and into the night. When I had a break I had a message from James telling me he will be out with Reggie for the night and I also had a message from whiskey.
"Call me when you can. I miss you"
I shook my head, threw my coffee cup into the trash and slipped my phone into my coat pocket, leaving him on 'Read'.
It had been a few days since I had been at the clubhouse and since I had found the teenage girl at the field. I was making my rounds when I saw the young girl's mother leave since visiting hours were now over. I knocked softly on her door before I walked in slowly. Carmen was lying on the bed watching her laptop before she looked up and saw me, I gave her a soft smile "How are you feeling?" I asked her, she slowly closes her laptop and shrugs her shoulders. Since Carmen has been here, she has barely said a word, which was understandable since I went through the same silence for a while. "You will be able to go home tomorrow," I said as I placed her file on one of the tables. "I bet your family are happy you'll be home" and she shrugs.
I sighed as I placed my hands into the pockets of my coat "Do you wanna know something? You are not alone in this Carmen, you have your family and your friends."
"My friends don't want anything to do with me" she mumbles softly but enough for me to hear.
"You will be heading off to college soon right?" I asked her, she gave me a slight nod "well, you will be able to start fresh, new school, new friends. I was your age when I went through something similar to you and for a long time I hated myself, blaming myself"
"How did you get through it?" She asked me.
"I spoke to a therapist, I spoke to my friends and brother. I went to college being shy, barely speaking to anyone but I pushed through it." I told her, I watched her as she played with her fingers, looking down at them before I heard her sniff and wiped her nose. I grabbed some tissues, handing them to her before taking a seat on her bed. "I'm not going to force you into speaking with someone but I can help you with the same therapist that I had. I'll let you get some rest, I will be here for another few hours before my shift ends but I'll check up on you before I leave okay?" She nodded her head, I asked her if she needed anything else but she told me no.
Closing her door I place her file on the nurse's desk before grabbing another patient's file and heading towards their room.
