I awoke the next day with an overwhelming sense of melancholy. One the one hand I had met this amazing person yesterday that gave me the time of my life, and on the other hand I wasn’t sure if I would ever see him again. I lay there in my bed on my stomach looking out my window. The snow had stopped falling, but there was a good five inches on the ground. My clock read 9am and I figured I should get ready for my interview. It was with another publishing house – frankly I was surprised that I even got interviews for these jobs with my lack of experience. But, being a book editor was my dream and I wasn’t going to question any reasons as to why I got interviews for it. Like Louis said, I don’t need to question when good things happen, I just need to enjoy it.

I sighed deeply as I got undressed and stepped into the small shower. Maybe after my interview I would stop by Words & Tea and see if he was working today. Maybe if he wasn’t I could get his number from a co-worker. Wait, maybe that isn’t a good idea maybe that is too creepy. No, I wouldn’t do that. Maybe I wouldn’t even stop by the shop – just in case he was working. I don’t want to seem like a creep.

I’m sure he wouldn’t see it that way though. We got on really well, why wouldn’t he be happy to see me? Maybe if I just happened to walk by the shop, he would see me pass by through the window and come out to say hi. Yeah, that sounds like a good idea.

Okay, now that I have that figured out, I can stop thinking about him. I can just forget about him until after my interview. But what if my interview goes as badly as yesterdays? It was a smaller company than the one I applied at yesterday, so maybe they won’t be as mean. I stepped out of the shower and wrapped a towel around myself with my brow furrowed and worried about every possible thing that could go wrong. As I went to walk out of the bathroom I felt something weird under my foot.

“HOLY SHIT! OH MY FUCK! WHAT THE HELL! OH GROSS! HOLY FUCKING DINGLEBAT! AAAAHHHHHH!!!”

I had just stepped on a spider the size of my palm. I gagged a little. Ugh! I touched it! I stepped on it! With bare feet! I turned to look back where it was – and it was gone. I quickly looked on my foot, but it wasn’t there. “FUCK!!!” I ran to stand on my bed, not knowing where it could be. I heard a knock on my door and a, “Hello? Is everything okay in there?” I scanned the floor quickly looking for it and made a beeline for the door.

I opened it to find a guy I’d seen around the building before looking at me with confusion as he said, “Are you okay? I was passing by and I heard screaming,” Still being able to feel what the spider felt like under my foot, I was still quite jumpy. “Oh um, yeah, sorry about that. It’s just um…I stepped on a spider and it was huge, and I can’t find it, and I didn’t mean to step on it, and I’m bare foot and its gross and it didn’t even die and now I don’t know where it is,” I kind of rambled because I was becoming acutely aware that all I had on was a towel. It was obvious this guy was well aware too, judging by the little eye contact he made and how concentrated he was on his fingernails.
“Oh right, uh well would you like help finding it?” he asked slightly awkward-like. I thought for a moment and said, “Hold on for half second, let me get dressed first,” he laughed nervously and agreed to wait. “But if you hear me scream, I give you full permission to barge in here,” I said.

I closed the door and cautiously walked back to my bedroom scanning every inch of floor I could. Quickly I put on my under garments and pants and just as I was pulling my shirt over my head, I saw it. The disgusting thing was making its way right towards me! “HELP!!!!!!” I called hoping the guy was still there. He came in running and when he saw the spider he recoiled, “Holy shit!”

“Yeah! I know!”
“Jump! Jump over it toward me!”
“You have shoes on, just smash it!” I exclaimed.
“I didn’t know it was that big!” he sounded panicked. Awesome, I get a manly-looking neighbor to help me and he is as big a scary-cat as me.  The spider was drawing near, only about a foot away now, so I did as he said. I jumped and he caught my arm to steady me. “Now what?” I asked. He looked around at all the empty, and half unpacked boxes all over the place. “Are you moving in or moving out?” I hardly thought this was the time to make small talk, but I told him I just moved in and with that he took an empty box, firmly holding the sides, and smashed it down right on top of the spider. He stood up straight with a triumphant little smile.

“I’m Liam by the way, I live right across the hall from you,”
“Hi Liam, I’m Jovi, nice to meet you. And thank you for that – helping me. And sorry for being almost naked earlier, not a great first impression,”
“Well…it was memorable to say the least,” he chuckled and added, “If you ever need anything, don’t hesitate to ask,”
“Right, thanks. And same goes for you too!”
Liam left shortly after to get to work, and I finished getting ready for my interview. The box remained where it was the whole time. I didn’t want to even look at the beast under it.

After applying my make up, I looked online to see how much money was in my account. I couldn’t afford to keep taking cabs everywhere, but if it means I could get a job, it was worth it. I opted to take one today even though I could probably walk to my interview, walking through five inches of snow wasn’t something I wanted to do. As I waited for the cab to show up (it would be delayed because of the snow) I looked at my map of Doncaster to continue getting familiar with the area. I knew the street names pretty well by now, but as to how they connected, I still was having some trouble. As I looked over the map I realized the book shop was probably a half hours or so walk from where I lived.

I stuffed the map in my purse and looked in the mirror. I decided on dark skinny jeans and brown knee high boots with a white blouse and my red jacket.

Still waiting for the cab, I looked around my small dank flat. The front door led into the kitchen/living room area that had a small half bath off it and my bedroom door straight across the room from the front door. All the furniture was used, stained, and had at least one hole in it. The walls were a stale yellow color and the paint peeled. It was obvious the previous tenants were smokers – and heavy ones at that. It was always cold and I hated being here.

There was a honk from outside and I jumped toward the door, ready to get out of this place, and hopefully get a job today.
