I walked in Louis’ front door where I saw him coming out of the hallway pulling a shirt over his head. “Hey!” I said.
“Hey there!” he replied coming over to kiss me.
“How was your first band practice?” I asked. The guys had gotten together earlier today for the first official time.
“Great! I loved it. I’m so glad we all got back together, they were my best friends, and we’ve picked up right where we left off,”
“That’s great!” I said sitting in his recliner chair. He came to sit on my lap and I put my arms around his waist. We both didn’t work today and he didn’t have rehearsals for Skinny Legs until they picked the girl to play the lead which was surprisingly difficult to do.
“What shall we do today?” he asked.
“Hmm…well we could go shopping…or clean...”
“We aren’t some old couple, c’mon let’s be exciting!” he said.
Just then my phone rang, it was my dad.
“Well…you want to make it exciting how about you meet my parents. I still haven’t told them,”
“You haven’t? I told mine ages ago!” exclaimed Louis. I mouthed an apology as I answered.
“Hi dad,”
“Hey sweetie, how is work going?”
Of course his first question was about work, not about how his daughter was doing. “It’s fine dad, I’m making enough where I don’t have to worry too much about what I spend,”
“Too much? Jovi I don’t want you to have to worry at all-“
“-Dad,” I cut him off, “Before you give me the whole speech about not going to college, how about we don’t go down that road right now. There is someone I want you to meet. Well talk to, but meet,”
“Okay…who is it?” he asked warily.
“His name is Louis, he is my boyfriend,”
“Okay…” he was caught off guard and hesitant. I gave the phone to Lou who looked nervous. He put it up to his ear and said, “Hello Mr. Stevens, Sir, I’m Louis Tomlinson. I um I would shake your hand if I could…” he face palmed after saying that, as he got up and walked around the room anxiously. I wasn’t too worried about anything, if my parents didn’t like him then that’s their problem. I know he is a good guy, and I love him and that’s all that really matters.
“Yes Sir, I am employed…Yes Sir, I do attend university…I’m majoring in drama…”
I knew that wasn’t a field of study my dad liked, and by the furrowed brow Louis had, I could tell he was figuring that out as well.
“No Sir, we have not…I do respect her, very much…No-…Yes Sir…I know she is Sir…” he seemed jumbled, maybe spontaneously having the two of them talk wasn’t a good idea.
“I’m going to have to disagree with you, Sir,” Louis said firmly as he stopped pacing the room. “I will not try to make Jovi do something she doesn’t want to do. If she doesn’t want to go to university then she doesn’t have to. She is making a perfectly good life for herself right here. Furthermore, I will not have you insult the line of work I want to go into just because it doesn’t involve formulas, documents, or chart notes. Good day!” he said hotly as he handed me the phone back.
“Hi dad…” I said hesitantly.
“Jovi, this Louis character…do you love him?” he asked, I couldn’t tell what he was thinking.
