Chapter 26: The End

A few days later Ashley and Tobias were released from the hospital. I had taken the liberty of buying them each two new outfits considering most of their clothes burned in the fire. Niall had everything prepared for Ashley to move in and Fred had cleaned up enough for Tobias to stay with him. In the hospital, Ashley was changing into her new purple dress behind her curtain as Niall and I waited for her. “You excited?” I asked Niall quietly
He nodded with a little smile, “Kind of nervous, but I really think it could work,” he replied. Ashley stepped out from behind the curtain and spun around for us to see. “Very nice,” I said,
“Beautiful,” Niall commented. She still had her arms and calves wrapped up, but she was able to move them with bearable pain. “Thanks guys. For everything, I don’t know how I could ever thank you,”
“Just don’t forget who you are,” I told her
She smiled and looked over at her dad. He was still laying down staring at the wall. Ashley walked over to him.
“Dad? I don’t know if you can hear me. But I’m moving in with Niall. You’re going to stay with Fred. I’ll come visit, but I need to start my life. Thank you for doing everything you’ve done. Please don’t lose yourself. Don’t forget to have fun, okay?” She stood there for a while looking at him and as she turned away we heard, “I love you Ashley. I’m sorry,” She turned back around and Tobias was looking right at her, Ashley started welling up, “I love you too, dad,”

          Niall walked over and put a hand on her shoulder. “Love her always,” Tobias said looking at him. Niall just nodded and Tobias turned to look at the wall again. “Come on,” Niall murmured. They turned around and I handed Ashley her bag and they left. I went over to Tobias and said, “Come on, we have to get you dressed to go to Fred’s,” Tobias didn’t acknowledge me so I said, “Tobias, come on, Fred will be here in a few minutes. You have to get dressed. I will not take your clothes off for you,”
Still nothing.
“TOBIAS! STOP BEING A POTATO AND START LIVING!” I exclaimed
To my surprise he smiled. Then he chuckled.
“I just listen. I don’t want to participate anymore in life. I just want to observe it. Listen to it. Understand it,” he said quietly. I put a stack of clothes at the foot of his bed and wrapped the curtains around him and said, “You can start observing a lot easier when you aren’t wearing a hospital gown that shows your butt. I’ll open the curtains in five minutes, and you better be dressed,”

          I left the room to stand in the hall and wait for Fred. I might have been a little harsh on him, but I frankly was frustrated by how he treated Ashley, like she wasn’t even there right up until she was about to walk out. I guess we all grieve in different ways though. I saw Fred turn the corner and limp towards me. I’d never noticed he had a limp. It was weird not seeing him in his apartment. “Hi Fred,” I greeted as he came up to me. “’Lo,” he grunted.
“Tobias is in there, he should be getting dressed,”
“Kay,” he said and walked in.
I started walking down the hall to leave as my phone buzzed, it was Liam calling.
“Hi Liam,”
“Hey Jovi, uhm, do you know someone named Katrina?”
“Yeah, she is a friend from back home, why?”
“She is at your flat, Harry and I saw her sitting outside your door,”
“HI JOVI!” I heard from the background. That was deffinatly Katrina. I couldn’t believe it.
“Can you put her on the phone?” I asked excitedly.
There was a pause and then an excited, “JOVI!?!”
“Katrina! What are you doing here?! I thought you said I was stupid for coming over here!”
“You were, but that doesn’t mean I still don’t love and miss you! Get your butt home now! I want to see you!”
“I’m on my way right now!”
I heard some rustling around on the other end and Harry’s voice speaking to me, “She isn’t a serial killer is she?” he asked
“No,” I said laughing
“Katrina, get up and come inside with Liam and I while we wait for Jovi to limp back over here!” he said to her. Then quietly in the phone he asked me, “Is she single, because she is fit!”
I laughed and said, “Why don’t you go find out, Styles!”
“I intend to!”
And with that he hung up. I was just walking out the hospital front door as a dark green mini cooper pulled and rolled down the window.
“Want a ride?” Louis asked smiling
“How could I resist?” I replied getting in

          As we drove to my place I couldn’t help but feel good. I was excited to see Katrina, and who knows, maybe she and Harry would have something! I was so happy that Ashley was finally living for herself and she and Niall were together, and I was happy that Fred and Tobias would be companions again. Zayn and Perrie seemed like they were working out especially since he was planning on introducing us to her in a couple days at band practice. I couldn’t ask for a better best friend than Liam, it was so nice living across from someone who you would always be there for and who would always be there for you – especially when spiders were around. But most of all it was nice to have Louis in my life. He is the one that started it all – this whole new chapter of finding magic in Doncaster.
I loved him like I never thought I could love anyone. He looked over at me and asked, “What are you thinking about?”
“Love,” I replied back smiling
