I waited on Miracle's bed, flipping through the feed on my phone as Jules and my former neighbor - also know as Miracle's friend - Meg fussed over Miracle's makeup. With Jules' and Miracle's faces cleaned off, makeup was put on to compliment their dresses.
Miracle was the last one to get ready and the other two were spending a lot of time on her.
Not that it seemed like she minded. She just sat on the chair that Jules had pulled into the bathroom from some other room, still as a statue.
She was wearing a shorter red dress with 3/4 length sleeves with a skirt that flared out from the waist. A thin sparkly black belt accompanied it, one that I loaned her. She seemed surprised that I would have one.
On her left was Meg, whose pink and black bob worked with the light purple strapless dress. It faded into a pink at the bottom with a hint of lace overlay along the edge. She wore many bangles on her wrist which clinked together every time she moved.
When we all asked her how that was Christmas-y, she shrugged. "I don't know. I don't think they'll care too much though."
Jules had shrugged. "The girl's got a point." However, she couldn't relate to her at all.
She had a dark green dress that was a one sleeve dress. That one sleeve was a sheer long sleeve with little holly leaves with the berries stitched in. Her hair was in a braid around her head like a crown. She claimed it was her take on a wreath.
I, however, apparently got off easy because my name was Christmas. I had a long sleeve black dress on with my black heels that had about 2 inches of heel on them. For jewelry, I had a simple silver necklace with a charm of a green Christmas tree and regular silver ball studs for earrings.
I sighed as I checked the time on my phone. It was eight thirty and we were going to be late if we didn't hurry up.
"They're still attacking poor Miracle with the makeup? Isn't that what they were doing, like, ten minutes ago?" Dot asked me, leaning against the doorway, his hand in his pocket. His wavy auburn hair was nicely combed out of his eyes and he sported a light green shirt with regular khaki dress pants and had brown dress shoes on. As for the Christmas-y tie, he wore a tie that had the manger scene on it.
It was my favorite because it was my dad's favorite. My dad had an extensive Christmas tie collection that Dot got after he died, being the only boy old enough to even possibly wear one at the time.
I nodded. "Yeah. I really don't know how Miracle does it. Staying still for that long." I snuck a glance over at her again.
Dot turned his head to do the same. His mouth quirked up into a smirk. "Perhaps it's because she's using all the fidget-y energy she has and making her mouth use it all up."
I glanced over again and this time noticed that it appear that Miracle was talking both of the girls' ears off.
Dot's theory was proved when Meg told Miracle to please stop talking as it was making her weary already and Jules agreed.
A few moments later, Miracle was allowed to leave the bathroom, Meg and Jules finally being finished with her makeup.
"So?" She asked Dot and I as she struck a pose, waiting our answers.
The silver eye shadow on her eyelids really brought out the gray tones in her eyes, the blue being the lesser color for once. They put mascara on her and it looked good, although I loved her natural face a bit more then her face being all done up, to be honest.
"You look really good. Like the star of the party." Dot told her, adding a dramatic tone when he said the last part.
I mean, she's hot enough to be a star. You know, cause stars are actually really hot things of gas and dust particles or whatever.
Ah, I love how my brain gives me the weirdest jokes.
She laughed, something I liked a lot about her, and rolled her eyes, grinning. "Sure. A real hottie." She joked sarcastically.
If there's one thing I've noticed, it's that she's getting pretty sarcastic. I'm not sure if that's because my fluency in the language is rubbing off on her or what but she's definitely sarcastic. More than you would have thought.
Okay, more sarcastic than I would have thought.
I came back to reality with all of them staring at me and then said, "I think that ducklings are adorable."
Everyone gave me odd looks but I just shrugged.
"What? It's true. I do think that little ducklings are adorable." I said nonchalantly.
"That wasn't the question." Jules told me. "The question was if you were ready to go or not."
"In that case, yes. I was been ready about thirty minutes ago. You all just take so long to get ready. It's not a royal ball."
"We can't all be as naturally pretty as you." Miracle told me with a hint of sass in her tone and facial expression but she then turned a light pink after she seemed to realize what she had said.
I allowed myself a small smile.
She would say something somewhat flirtatiously but not notice that she said it and then when she did, you could tell because she would blush. It was adorable.
"Are you guys going or not? I don't want to see you guys any longer than I have to." Elle appeared in the doorway, her arms crossed and an impatient look on her face. Both her and Gabe were a bit more than a little salty about the party.
These parties were started when my dad died. He normally planned and hosted the big town Christmas party but after he died, well, he couldn't do that anymore.
We nodded and exited the room, all heading downstairs. Suddenly, my mom came out of the room she was previously in and held up a camera.
I groaned. "Mom! We're not going to Prom or something." I whined but she insisted.
We complied and after five minutes of pictures - half of it spent by my mom moving us around until we got in a formation that she liked - we were finally able to get to my truck and start driving to the Conner's Christmas Party.
