Miracle

Gabe was much like his twin, Noel. His looks, at least. I hadn't talked to the kid yet so I wasn't sure about his personality.

He had the same brown hair as Noel although while Noel's eyes were more of a light green, his was a more forest green. Although, while Noel didn't have any glasses, he had black rimmed glasses in which he pushed up his nose because they were slipping.

I noticed I was staring and cleared my throat, glancing away from him before looking back at him. "You must be Gabe."

"Gabriel, please. I do not know you well enough to allow you to call me by my nickname." He told me matter-of-factly.

Out of the corner of my eye I could see Noel rolling her eyes.

He frowned slightly at her. "While some people-" He then coughed which sounded suspiciously like the name Noel. "- Might think that it's dramatic or ridiculous, I think that it's better. If I don't know you well and you don't know me well, why should you call me a name that suggests the exact opposite?"

"I completely agree." I told him.

He looked at me, surprised. Apparently that was the unpopular opinion. "Really?"

I nodded. "Yeah. I would do the same thing if I had a nickname."

"You don't?" He asked.

I shook my head. "Nope. My name's Miracle. There's not really a nickname for that." I paused. "Well, Other than Mira, Mimi, or Mia, I guess, and I don't think I really look like any of those."

He agreed with me.

"You two done chit-chatting? It sounds like they stopped arguing and I want hot cocoa." Noel cut in, a bit impatiently.

"I did hear that your mother's hot chocolate was the best in town." I said.

"It's a small town." Gabriel and Noel told me at the same time. They shared a grin with each other.

"So I've heard." I said.

"Come on. Let's get you hot cocoa." Noel grabbed my hand and led me into the kitchen that flowed easily into the living room.

Their mother was mixing together a few mugs of something. She looked up when we entered the kitchen. "Miracle, I see that you've met Elle and Gabe."

Gabriel corrected her. "She knows us at Noel and Gabriel and that is how it will stay until further notice."

"Okay, it's your names." The woman shrugged and then pushed the mugs towards us. "I'm guessing you all came in here for this and not just to be in the kitchen for the fun of it."

After we picked our mugs up, she handed us each a candy cane.

"You put it in your cocoa." Noel explained to me.

I nodded and followed her to the couch so I could put the cane in my hot chocolate. I glanced over at Noel's mug to see how she did hers to mimic her.

One thing I've definitely learned is to see what others are doing if you're in a scene you haven't been in before or aren't comfortable in. It'll save you some embarrassment.

Her candy cane was hooked onto the side of her mug.

I did the same and after a bit, took a sip.

Christi was decorating the Christmas tree and Dot was nowhere to be seen.

"So, what exactly happened in the car accident?" Dot appeared from the kitchen with another mug of what I was guessing was hot chocolate.

"Well-" Christi started.

Dot held his hand up, stopping her from continuing. "No, I want to hear it from Miracle." He told her, sitting down in a comfy chair putting me in the spotlight which I didn't particularly like.
