Why should we hold on when things get tough? Why should we handle a pain many people call silly? Why? Why can't we take the easy way out? Here is why, because of what we leave behind, of who we leave behind. Actions have consequences, and there are some we can't reverse.
Fabian is an eighteen year old boy who was always anxious about the future. His biggest fear was to be a disappointment towards his family, mainly his parents and younger sister Franny. After many decisions he had made, the worst was choosing his path in life. When he started college he didn't know if he was making the right choice going into medical school, it seemed like the right option since all his family members expected him to become a doctor, but deep down he knew he was no doctor, he was a musician. His love for songwriting and singing brightened Franny's childhood, only a seven year old knew her brother's dream, but she couldn't prevent the worst nightmare to fall on their family.
After a long and painful year of being anxious, afraid, and feeling like a disappointment, Fabian couldn't handle it anymore. There was nothing holding him to life anymore, the best thing he thought was for him to let go. "who would care? Who would be affected? My family would be better off." These thoughts ran around in his head until he couldn't fight them anymore.
The next morning his mother went into his room to wake him up for his university day. Her eyes widened and her smile disappeared. Her heart dropped and her eyes filled with tears at the sight surrounding her son's body. She yelled and screamed for help as Fabian's father entered the room running. His hands quickly covered his mouth as tears ran down his face. Franny wanted to see what was going on, but Lena, Fabian's cousin who was under his parent's care, stopped her and closed the door.
When Franny asked her what was happening and why was her mother yelling, Lena answered in a quaver, saying: "Your mom just misses Fabian. He went away for college, somewhere in another country, and he might stay there for a while."
But no matter how many lies Lena could think of, she knew Fabian wasn't coming back, there was no coming back from what happened. Franny couldn't know that though, she was too young, so Lena distracted her for the rest of the day, and when the day ended, Lena cried so hard that her tears made her whole pillow moist. What a depressing thing it was, for that family to lose someone they deeply loved.
