The Lost Chance

Older Sister

   Fabian and Camila talked for a few hours until Camila's parents came home. Fabian discovered that only Camila can see and hear him, so he decided to leave and come back the next day, so she doesn't freak her parents out. But since he had no other place to go to, he just went into Camila's bathroom and stayed there, and when Camila came into it, he went into her room without her knowing.

   At night, as Fabian was staring at the mirror wishing he could see himself he heard a faint voice behind him saying: "Fabian?"

   He turned around and saw a younger girl dressed in white, smiling at him. He faced her and asked: "Yes, who are you?"

   The girl beamed at him: "I am Felice, I am your older sister."

   Fabian looked at the young girl in shock. He was sure that he was the older sibling, and the girl standing in front of him looked younger than him. "That's impossible, I don't have an older sister."

   Felice laughed: "You do, but you never met me. I died the same day I was born, you see I was born a few months early, so my chances of survival weren't that much. Mom and dad never got a chance to take pictures of me or anything, they only got a chance to give me a name."

   "I thought if kids die they become birds in heaven." Fabian commented.

   "Not birds. Plus I am not a ghost, I am here to look after you. It's my duty as your older sister. Plus I have been watching you all these years, you think I didn't care enough to look after my family? I care a lot, and I must say, I am deeply disappointed in you." Felice replied.

   "Not you too. Why are you disappointed?" Fabian sighed.

   "First of all, you got a chance to live, I didn't. Second, mom and dad already lost a child, losing two isn't fair. And three, Franny didn't deserve that." Felice pointed out.

   "They are better off without me, I was a disappointment." Fabian frowned.

   "Fabian, the only moment you were a real disappointment was when you did what you did. You gave up, that's not right." Felice explained. "But anyways, what's done is done, and the past is past, now you have a chance to change it all. How is Camila?"

   Fabian suddenly cheered up and expressed: "She's amazing! She could see me, isn't that amazing?"

   Felice smiled: "I am aware, but you have to tell her the truth, the sooner the better. The longer you wait the harder she'll take it."

   Fabian pouted: "For someone who looks twelve you sure are wise."

   Felice's face brightened: "Thank you, actually I look twelve because I didn't age in the human world like you. And this is actually how I would've looked like if I lived. Brown hair, blue eyes, and a smile that would melt people's hearts, but sadly I didn't survive."

   Fabian directly looked at his sister and asked: "You know what you look like? How?"

   Felice laughed: "My hair is long enough to see it without a mirror, and do you think I was alone all those years? Nah, I was around our ancestors, all our loved ones, they always told me that I had a beautiful smile that would melt people's hearts."

   Fabian was shocked to know all this information, but he wasn't done asking: "So if you can cross between two worlds, can I? Because it's really annoying when Camila is asleep."

   Felice gave a sarcastic smile: "No, I had a natural death, you on the other hand, nope. If you cross worlds you go to the fire, and there is no escape from there."

   Fabian yelled: "This is torture!"

   His yell obviously woke Camila up, because it wasn't a minute before she entered the bathroom saying: "Can you keep it down? I have dance rehearsals tomorrow."

   She wanted to say more, but she was stunned the moment she looked at Felice. Felice noticed this, so she smiled and introduced herself saying: "Hi Camila, I am Felice."

   Camila smiled back at the young girl, but it was obvious from her eyes that she was still stunned. But in a few seconds she gathered up the courage to ask: "Are you Fabian's soulmate or something?"

   Fabian quickly reacted: "No, she's my sister. My older sister." 

   Felice laughed at Fabian's embarrassing response which caused Camila to feel like Felice was laughing at her for misunderstanding, so she apologized in a soft voice saying: "Sorry, I didn't know. I just assumed because you two are together."

   Felice realized that her reaction made Camila feel bad, so she explained: "No it's fine, I was laughing at my brother's reaction. And I am not here to stay, I just always wanted to meet Fabian. He is a good boy, please make sure to take care of him for me when I am not around. It would mean the world for me to know that he is safe."

   Fabian suddenly felt afraid, "Safe? I am a ghost, who could possibly hurt me?"

   Felice looked hesitant, but she answered: "The devil succeeded with you, and now he wants his reward, he will do the impossible to make sure you don't succeed."

   Camila looked frightened by Felice's worlds too, so she asked: "When will the devil leave him alone then? And why does he want you?"

   Felice replied: "The devil claims his victims, but don't worry Fabian is a good boy, he was never a bad boy. And that's why I am going to always flash back here from time to time, I am keeping Fabian safe, and that's why your guardian angel made sure you stay with Camila, the devil can't hurt you if there is an angel around, and Camila is mainly controlled by goodness, so she is strong enough to fight off the devil. Its confusing I know, but don't worry, I have it under control."

   Camila wasn't satisfied with Felice's answer so she questioned: "What do you mean by 'claims his victims'?"

   Felice looked unsure of how to answer Camila's question, she knew that Fabian should be the one to tell her how he died. Fabian realized this so he answered saying: "It doesn't matter, I had anxiety, so the devil used to talk to me a lot."

   "But I also have anxiety, he isn't safe with me." Camila commented.

   "You're stronger." Felice replied. "You fight the devil better than Fabian ever did. Your love is stronger than anyone's, that's why he is only safe with you."

   "But when does this all end?" Fabian asked.

   "If you succeed the devil can't harm you anymore, because well you will be alive again, he can only get to you by your thoughts. But if you fail, he will hurt you in the best way possible." Felice answered.

   "How?" Fabian and Camila both asked.

   "By claiming someone else in your place, someone you love." Felice concluded.

   Suddenly Fabian felt weak, he knew who Felice was implying, she was implying Camila. If Camila doesn't forgive Fabian, she will do something bad.

   "That's harsh." Camila commented.

   "The devil isn't sweet Camila. The devil is cruel and rotten, the devil is evil, what do you think? The only time the devil is fair is when he wants to claim his prizes." Felice spoke.
