"Where's Zayn?"

Liam asked as he sat down at the table for breakfast. He woke up alone in bed and looked at the clock to find he was late. He doesn't remember when he fell asleep, must've been near morning since he slept this late. It was already 8:30.

So he guessed Zayn must've gotten ready and would be having breakfast. But he came down to find everyone except Zayn.

"He left for office already. Said you were sleeping and didn't want to disturb."

Kareena said serving him breakfast.

"Oh. Did he have breakfast?"

"He left way early Liam. Said he'll have something at the cafeteria."

"Hmm.."

Liam hummed at that. He knew it was not entirely logical to think Zayn left without breakfast because of him, but he can't help it.

"That boy is stressing too much about this project. Yasser shouldn't have agreed to his plan on taking the whole responsibility himself."

Geoff said thoughtfully.

"Baba, he's just passionate. He wants this project to succeed. Zayn gets like this when he wants something so bad."

Liam said before he could stop himself. Defending Zayn has become a habit to him recently.

"Good to see you taking his side, Liam. I'm just saying he shouldn't stress this much. Take care of him, yeah?"

"I will."

Liam said, more to himself than to his father. He knows Zayn was mad at him. But he wouldn't just let Zayn be and ignore him. Zayn is ignoring him enough for both of them!

Liam was nervous to go back to the office. He didn't know how many of them have heard about what happened. Or knew what happened. Apparently, none of them.

His father had effectively made up a story about Zayn finding out that Roman was sabotaging the company, and gave vague information about his drug activities and such and the employees understood how Roman deserved what he got. Liam had a doubt that Stephen knew, but the guy didn't mention anything at all.

So things are back to normal. Or not. Because Liam can't find Zayn in their office either.

"Stephen, did you see Zayn?"

"Yeah, he went down to the cafeteria."

Liam smiled at Stephen. He was relieved. At least Zayn is eating. Maybe he should go check on him? Should he?

"He asked me to bring this file to him once I found it. If you're going there, would you mind giving it to him?"

Stephen extended a blue file to Liam and Liam nodded before taking it from him.

So Zayn is working even at the cafeteria? Sigh.

"You know, people usually drink away their pain, or eat a lot and get fat when they're heartbroken. You're doing neither of that. But you're working. Is this a new way of dealing with pain?"

Louis asked sipping his second cup of tea.

"More like Payne! See what I did there?"

Niall snickered accepting a fist bump from Louis.
