It had been days. Days of visits and checkups. Waiting for George to heal. There had been no sign of Sapnap. Dream had told him he needed time to think. George didn't want to see him anyway.
The doctors had finally told George he could go home which meant Sapnap would have to take him. His head and leg had healed but his heart was still in pieces like broken glass.
Dream and Sapnap arrived early that morning."Hi George" Dream said, opening his hospital door. George had just finished getting dressed and was ready to leave this place.
"Morning" he replied and walked out. They made their way out in silence. George hadn't walked in a while. It felt good to move his legs again.
They entered the bright sunlight. George squinted as it beamed in his eyes. Dream put a hand on George's shoulder and stopped him before they reached the car that Sapnaps nervous face peaked out of."Hey, I know you and Sapnap are trying to figure something out but just take it easy on him okay?" He asked seriously. George looked down.
"I'll try" he replied. It was forced but he had to please Dream. He couldn't lose everyone.
"He really cares about you George. And he's worried he's lost you, so just... try forgive him. Even if you can't find it inside you because I completely understand that but just don't be harsh" Dream added quickly. He smiled and lifted George's chin up.
"Smile George, it's gonna be ok" he said. George smiled and felt his face grow hot. The affection and love had rushed back into him.
George opened the back door of the car and slumped into the seat. He stared at his hands most of the ride. Awkward silence danced in the air between the three of them. George's perspective had completely changed. And he could feel it amongst Dream and Sapnap too. They all felt different towards each other. It was like their friendship was starting from scratch.
Sapnap pulled into George's driveway. George looked up. The familiar house stood in-front of him.
Let's go for a walk....
The words flickered through his memory. He got out of the car and saw the empty door frame. It hadn't been repaired since Fundy had broken in.
What do you want?
He knew what Fundy had wanted. But he hadn't been smart."I'm gonna sit here for a bit, you guys can go and talk together" Sapnap said from behind them. George didn't bother to turn around. He walked inside. The fresh scent of home surrounded him as he walked into the living room and slumped onto the couch. The window opposite him was shattered.
"What happened?" Asked George, pointing to the window as Dream sat beside him.
"Fundy tried to shoot us" Dream said. His words were shaky. "And Sapnap saved me" he added, turning to look at George.
"Shit" George said. A realisation had refreshed his brain. Sapnap did care about him. Even though he would never forget what happened he would need to let Sapnap back through the door he had locked.
"Sapnap told me something in hospital" George said suddenly, remembering their short conversation. Dream looked at George quickly.
"What?" He questioned anxiously.
"He said that he felt under pressure because you were dumping feelings on him, and when he thought it was nearly over I did too... he thought it was nearly over Dream. Was this... was this before New York?" George stammered, trying to remember Sapnaps words. He desperately wanted to know. Dream took a deep breath. George knew he wasn't good with expressing his feelings.
"Way before" Dream whispered, his eyes glistened with the passion that George had missed. His heart beat faster.
"For months I told Sapnap everything. Months before you had even thought about moving." Dreams let the words flow as though he couldn't stop them. The truth made gave him butterflies, he stayed silent to let him continue.
"It came to the point that I couldn't deal with it. The secret was like carrying a massive rock. It hurt George." It made sense now. The change in tone that hadn't made sense before. The pressure in Dreams voice that George hadn't listened to. This was why.
"I nearly let go. But then the wedding happened. We met up. I saw you in person and it broke me more. I wanted to let every word I had been holding slip out but I couldn't. And the beach. I was overwhelmed. Sapnap had hinted to me a few things. And when... when you leaned in. I couldn't believe it." He stuttered, his words shaking along with his hands. He took a deep breath and looked at George. George could tell he felt relieved.
"I was nearly too late" George said. It ached his chest to believe that if he hadn't realised what he had been feeling any later, this would have never happened.
"But I'm here George. And it's now that matters. Not what it could've been" the words embraced George. He smiled at Dream.
"I don't think I've shown you how much you mean to me Dream. I was selfish, letting myself go. I wasn't going to come back for you, and... and I'm sorry" George admitted as he reached his hand around Dreams neck and pulled him close. Their lips entwined and George closed his eyes. The sweet taste tingled inside him, almost as familiar as home.
The moment was short but affectionate, a small reminder of love. But it reminded him of something else.
Lying in the alley, watching..... helpless..."Hey I think you should talk to Sapnap" Dream said, licking his lips. George giggled.
"Fine, I'll go see him now" and he pushed himself out of the couch and left Dream sitting alone.
He walked outside and opened Sapnaps car door to stare at his big glowing eyes, slowly filling with fear."Hi" he said, confused. George sighed.
"Look Sapnap. I've been talking to you and Dream. I really don't want to lose you and I finally I understand how much you cared about me." He said, the words stabbed him. George really didn't want to be forgiving Sapnap but he couldn't watch his life fall apart. Sapnap had friendship issues. And him and Dream were really the people he had.
"I can't forgive you. And I'll never forget what happened" George said as memories filled his mind, sending a small shiver down his spine.
Just let me have Dream... or else."I understand that" said Sapnap, looking into the distance behind George. George leaned on the door and took a deep breath.
"But I won't be harsh on you. We're still friends okay" George said and forced a weak smile. Sapnap looked up and smiled nervously back.
"Thank you George" he said calmly. George stood back as Sapnap got out of the car. He held out his hand.
"No more secrets" he said. George reached into Sapnaps hand.
"No more secrets" he repeated.
They both walked back inside silently and sat next to Dream."Are we on good terms again?" He asked. Looking between George and Sapnap. They nodded. Although George couldn't help but feel scared around Sapnap. The memorised pain that had flooded his leg danced in his mind, but he managed a forced smile, hoping Dream believed it.
