*Sherry's POV*

I rolled my eyes. Of course. I swear,it seemed like Jake and Landon could be related. I do admit that I was glad to see him though. I remember Chris saying something about him.

"What are you doing here?"

Jake stared up at me for a few seconds. Then, he lifted his arm and jerked his thumb toward the smaller shadow I had seen earlier. There was an little girl wrapped up in the thick attire everyone in this country seemed to wear. She was small framed, with a pretty face.

"I deployed myself to help her. Turns out her parents are the ones behind the terrorist attack.", Jake said as he stood up. He dusted his pants off and crossed his arms. I smiled. Imagining Jake caring for a child was something that could be a little bit difficult to imagine. Difficult, but not impossible.

Landon snorted. Jake's eyes left me and landed on him. There was something in his eyes that said he didn't trust Landon. It most likely didn't mean anything. After spending a long time with Jake, I had grown to know that he never really trusted anybody. I didn't blame him.

"So, you're still working as a rogue Muller?" Landon had walked over to a wall and leaned against it. His eyes were glued to his nails as he spoke. "That's a shame. You won't even work with your own girlfriend. You would rather spend time with a snot nosed brat."

Jake stiffened even more. I could hear the wheels turning in his brain, trying to come up with a smart remark that would outdo Landon's. Finally, he spoke. "Well. Somebody needs a manicure. Or maybe a maxi pad. Get off your period, kid."

Landon's face turned red. I had to admit, Jake outdid him this time.

"Anyway. Back to the mission at hand. Where do we go now? What do we do next?" I had to stop them. Otherwise, someone would probably wind up losing an eyeball. Both of them were exceptional fighters, especially with hand-to-hand combat.

I found myself wondering if Landon could fight Ustanak the way Jake did. Probably not. He didn't have any mutated genes to back him up here. Jake did.

"....Coming with us!"

When I came back down to earth, Landon was yelling at Jake. His back had come off the wall. He stood with one foot in front of the other, pointing his finger at Jake. Did I miss something? They had both turned to face me.

"Um...What was said?"

Both Landon and Jake rolled their eyes. Then, Jake spoke up. "Tell pretty boy here that we can come with you."

That was actually a good idea. We should stick together. Besides, even though Jake was exceptionally good at his job, it didn't mean that he was any good at being Mr. Mom.

"He's right Landon. We need to stay together. This little girl could be the key to finding out what is going on here."

Landon pinched the bridge of his nose between his thumb and forefinger. He said something in a foreign language. Most likely something that would make me want to wash his mouth out with soap.

"Why don't we just take the girl? He's obviously not man enough to watch her by himself. What makes you think he could do any better if we were around?"

I opened my mouth to speak. Before I could get any words out, a small voice spoke up. There was no way it had been Jake or Landon. Not only were their voices extremely deep, they were also way too obnoxious to even try being quiet. This was the first time I heard the little girl speak.

"I may be young. But I do think I deserve some say in this. This is as much my war as it is yours. If you can't see that, then you are blind. I want to stop my parents. I don't like the fact that they are killing people, especially small children, or even a newborn or two. I want to go wherever Jake goes. He is the one that volunteered to save me. He's the one that actually cares. So, either we go, or we stay."

Everyone's jaw had dropped. This young lady was obviously determined to get what she wanted.

*Leon's POV*

Within a few minutes, I was done stitching the skin on Helena's waist back together. I could feel my eyebrows pinching together with worry. This was the only thing I hated about my job. Everyone I cared for seemed to get hurt.

I sat down next to her. She hadn't stirred since she flinched when the needle pierced her skin. There were still tiny strings of blood seeping past the stitches. I raised my hand to the bare skin on her waist. It was warm. Feverish, almost.

Her eyes fluttered open. She stared at me. I stared back. Her cheeks started flushing.

I pulled my hand away. "So. You feel any better?"

Her cheeks were still red when she looked up at me. "Yes. I still feel like I got thrown around by a giant spider, but yeah, overall I feel great."

That was good. At least I wasn't losing my partner yet.

"Where do we go now?"

That was a good question. "Well. First we need to make sure you stop bleeding. If we tear those stitches open, it will not be good....Actually...You might need to go home."

Her eyes flew wide open. "No! Leon, are you insane?! I am not going anywhere. You need me. Not as much as I need you. But please, please, don't make me go home."
