*Landon's POV*

I could hear Jake and Sherry laughing behind me. My teeth were clenched so tight I could feel them trying to crack under the pressure. What was so great about Jake Muller? He had saved the world- No. That wasn't right. Sherry had saved the world.

If it hadn't been for Sherry, you can bet your red bottom baboons Jake would never have done anything. He had a lot of bitterness built in. I smirked at the thought of him becoming some sort of hip- hop artist. Most men that had a past like Jake's either wound up rapping, or on drugs.

Either way he probably would have wound up dead.

"What's your name?"

I turned around. The little girl was looking at me with curious eyes. "What, kid?"

Her eyebrows drew together. She looked like she was focusing, maybe putting a puzzle together. "What is your name?"

I shook my head. "Landon. Now keep walking."

"I feel like I know you from somewhere."

"Just your imagination. Why would I want to come to this country when the USA is my home?"

I glanced at her until she once again began to speak. "Funny. Most Americans complain about their country."

"Most Americans are ungrateful. The don't realize what they have."

"Isn't that everybody? I've never met anybody that didn't have at least one complaint about their life."

She had a point. I guess we all had our struggles.

Nobody here knew that my father had been a terrorist as well. That's why I was part of this now. Hell, I guess that was everybody. I knew Sherry had a past because of her father and his experiments. Leon Scott Kennedy had been brought into this fight because of the Raccoon City Incident. Same goes for Chris Redfield, Jill Valentine, and Jake....Well we all know where Jake came from.

The sun was starting to come up. The desert heat would kick in soon. We would need to stop for rest and water soon.

"Jake! Sherry!"

Their heads snapped apart. I knew it. They had just been kissing.

"Save that for when you have a room all to yourself. We need to stop for rest soon.

They were there in just a few seconds.

"What do you mean rest?", Jake asked. "We need to keep going before it's too late! People are dying!"

I pinched the bridge of my nose. "Look, I understand. I get that. But you know what? The only lead we have to any of the stuff that has been going on is that little girl. If she gets dehydrated, we have no way to help her. I'm not a nurse, and I honestly don't see either of you being capable of starting an IV. So, sit your ass down and take a break."

Sherry bit her lip, but sat down. She wrapped her arms around her knees and rested her chin on her arms. Jake gave me a glare before sitting down next to her. The little girl yawned and laid down on the sand. Within minutes she was breathing heavily and snoring. She looked innocent- Well, more innocent- This way.

*Sherry's POV*

Jake had kissed me. It was better than any time I had ever imagined it. I missed it already.

Landon sat down a few inches from the girl. He had a grim look on his face. I knew what he was thinking. We all thought the same thing.

She was a fighter. Yeah, she was definitely a fighter. But it was sad that, just like the rest of us, she was in this now. She would never have a normal life. No husband. No kids. There was just no way.

After this was over with, the story would make headlines. Just like with my story, she would be the main one flashing across the TV screen. They might even bring her in for testing, whether she was exposed to a virus or not. They just didn't care. Nobody wanted to take chances.

"I can't believe they would do this to her. Her own parents...."

I felt Jake's eyes land on me. "Your parents did pretty much the same thing to you. Except they actually infected you with the virus. This little girl? She hasn't been exposed. She is going to be just fine. She has us to back her up. Just like you had Leon and Claire. She has us."

I bit my lip again. He was right. But that still didn't justify their actions.

*Leon's POV*

You could feel the tension as we all started walking. The sun was rising. Redfield and his rookie were walking close to each other, whispering.

Helena was walking slow. Her hand was pressed to her side. Her other hand held her pistol limp by her side.

"Are you okay?"

She forced a smile. You could still see the pain in her eyes. "I'm fine Leon. I just want to get this over with."

"Come here."

She walked over to me. I slid my pistol back into my belt. "Let me see your gun."

She handed me her pistol. I pulled her closer to me and slid my hand around behind her back to put her pistol in the holster. She followed my hand with her eyes and bit her lip. She looked back up at me then. "Leon, what are you doing?"

We stood there staring at each other. I still had my hand on her pistol. I could feel her bare skin against my wrist. I could feel my mood changing. I knew my eyes were getting darker. I leaned over, my lips brushing hers, and-

"Kennedy! Harper!"

Helena jumped. Chris was standing there with a smirk on his face. His rookie still looked like a scared puppy.

"What do you two think you're doing?"

Helena answered. "N-Nothing..."

Chris shook his head. "Save it for after we are done here. Leon, come here. I need to talk to you."

I turned to Helena. "I will be right back. Don't try to keep walking. I'll carry you."

The rookie walked over to Helena as I was walking to Chris. This must be pretty important. Did he find out something new?

He was turned around, facing away from Helena and Rookie. His shoulders were stiff. He was upset about something.

"Leon, what's going on between you and Helena?"

I thought about that. I want quite sure myself any more. Guilt flooded my chest. I didn't know what I had with Helena. Maybe it was just lust. After all, I still had feelings for Ada. I took a bullet for her once, I'm not afraid to do it again.

"I'm not exactly sure, Chris. I'm confused."

Chris shook his head. "I don't know what you two are doing, but take it from me, you don't want to fall in love with your partner....After Jill disappeared, I thought she was dead. I thought she was lost to me forever. And if she had been? It would have been my fault. She threw herself out the window for me. Don't do it Leon. If something happens to her, you will only blame yourself."
