*Chris' POV*
"Jake?", I asked in bewilderment. I thought Sherry had said they'd parted ways. I thought he was gonna be impossible to find.
But no. Here was the man himself.
"Have you seen Sherry? Or Leon?"
A spark of emotion lit in his eyes at the mention of Sherry, but it was gone almost as soon as it appeared. My heart went out to him. After all, he wasn't the only one who loved somebody.
Leon loved Ada. Although, how that came to be, I'm not exactly sure. Claire had great respect for him. Honestly, you would think they were married or something.
As for me, I loved Jill. After all this time, I still loved her. Why else would I have done what I did for her?
Sheva had loved her former trainer, Josh. I wish there was some way we could all actually be happy. It was amazing how many things you had to give up in this line of work.
"Earth to boyscout."
My head snapped up. Jake was looking at me, his eyebrows raised. "Can you call your dogs off? I honestly don't like guns pointed at my head."
I glanced behind me. Sure enough, O'Connor was right by my side, pointing his gun at Jake Muller's head.
"O'Connor. This man helped save the world. He is not a threat. Lower your weapon."
He looked at me, surprised. "This is Wesker's son?"
I nodded. "So...Have you seen them or head from them?"
"No. I haven't seen or heard from either of them. Why would I have? The BSAA is here now. We're all saved."
The sarcasm he put into his words made me itch to punch him. That was the Wesker in him though.
I smiled to myself. I bet Wesker was pissed that his son no longer worked for the dark side.
"Then what are you doing here?"
He scowled. "Do I really need to explain myself to you? Look, Redfield, I'm here because I have to be. I made a promise and I intend to keep it."
*Leon's POV*
I smiled at Helena across the table. We had remained friends for the past few months since our battle with the C-Virus and Neo Umbrella.
Now, we sat at a table in the local bar, chatting about our favorite foods.
"Ewww! You like sushi?", she asked in surprise.
"Yeah, I do." It was hilarious seeing the different reactions people had to that little fact about me.
Not that many people knew it. The President had known it. Hunnigan knows it. And now Helena.
I opened my mouth to ask her about her favorite thing to eat, when my phone began a persisten ringing.
Glancing at the screen, I frowned. Why was Sherry Birkin calling me?
"Hello?"
"Leon. Where are you?"
"I'm at home. Well, in a bar actually. Why?"
"Chris Redfield called me. They need us in Afghanistan. I know its short notice, but we need to get over there. Now."
"Okay. Roger that."
"Oh, and Leon. Be careful."
Click.
I kept staring at my phone screen. I guess this war really will never be over.
Helena slid her hand across the table and grabbed mine. I couldn't help but stiffen at her touch.
She pulled away from me, looking hurt.
"Remember the situation in the middle east?"
"I do," she replied.
"Apparently, its worse than we thought. We have to get over there."
*Sherry's POV*
I hung up the phone. Leon had been easy enough to get a hold of, though Jake had been a different story.
I gave up on calling him after about a hundred times. He obviously didn't want to talk to me.
Which hurt more than it probably should. But what was I supposed to feel? Before I met Jake, I had had no one.
Except Claire and Leon. They were both higher level agents though, so obviously they didn't have much time for a kid they had saved years ago.
My heart longed for Jake. I missed the way his shoulders sloped, the way he said my name, the way he teased Chris about his "boyscouts."
The thought of Chris brought up an image of Piers Nivans. He had died a hero.
So many people died heroes.
I only wanted the same for me. Or, maybe, I didn't care if I died.
So long as Jake was okay.
