*Jake's POV*

I'm not sure exactly how long I was standing there watching them before Sherry literally made a sliding entrance. There was something wrong, something really really wrong.

I busted through the door then, not being able to hold myself back. I had to know what was happening.

Sherry had blood coating her neck. Fear was painted in her eyes. Two people had wound up sliding into the room behind her, almost the same expression on their faces.

I ran to her, kneeling down and putting my finger under her chin to lift her eyes to mine. "What happened?"

She opened her mouth to speak, but the only noise that escaped her throat was a stangled whimper. Her hand flew to her throat, confusion clouding over her eyes.

She couldn't talk. Whatever had done this to them took their ability to speak. My guess is they were reading our lips as well. There was enough blood coming out of their ears to assume that they were deaf as well.

Sherry looked at me with pleading eyes. But there was nothing I could do. I heard the door I came through open again. I glanced over my shoulder to see the young girl and Landon come through.

Then Sherry blasted past me. She was going for Landon with all that she had.

"Hey! What the hell?!", Redfield's newest puppy screamed. "He's on our side! Jake, do something!"

"You could help, you fucking jarhead!", I yelled back as I jumped to my feet.

I ran and snapped my arms around Sherry's waist. She kept pulling against me, throwing her arms with her face twisted into a mask of pure rage. Her mouth was open like she would be screaming if she could.

"What the hell is her problem?!", Landon asked.

"Hell if I know!", I yelled.

Sherry finally went limp in my arms. I held her against my chest with one arm, using my free one to stroke her hair. Her entire body was shaking.

I turned my attention to Redfield and the creature he was hugging.

"So uh....What's going on with that?", I asked.

O'Connor spoke up first. "Chris's old partner. I'm assuming the same one who helped you escape the underwater facility."

My eyebrows furrowed. "I thought he was dead." Everyone had heard the story of how he laid down his own life for his captain. I didn't think there was a snowballs chance in hell that I would ever see him again.

The virus he injected in himself really did a number in him. He had a pulsating, electrified arm and multiple eyeballs strewn across his face. He looked almost like a normal juavo.

The bitch-turned-monster lifted his head to eye me. "It takes more than that to bring me down." There was blood running out of his mouth. His teeth looked almost rotten.

"Whatever you say Pal."

I turned my attention back to Sherry. She was looking up at me, trying to send a message with her eyes. There was something I needed to know. Dammit, why can't humans read minds?

The floor underneath our feet shook. Shelby took her hands and slammed them over my ears just as a loud scream ripped through the building.

I didn't understand why until I saw O'Connor putting his hands over his own ears, which were now spouting dark red blood. Piers had Redfield's ears covered. The young girl had her turban to cover hers. She seemed fine.
