*Leon's POV*
I tossed a wad of bills at the cab driver so we could go inside the large building we had pulled up to. This was the building my bosses worked in. I guess you could call it our version of the BSAA's HQ.
I opened the door and stepped out of the cab, waiting for Helena to get out before I closed the door.
She was looking at the huge building like most people did. I had to admit, it didn't look to shabby.
There were around eighty floors to the building, and the windows went from floor to ceiling. It almost looked as if it were entirely made of glass.
In front of it was a beautiful marble fountain. The water shot out of the top of it, splashing down into a shallow pool where many people threw pennies to make wishes.
Which seemed ridiculous to me. Then again, most people in our line of work thought a lot of things people did were ridiculous.
I'm pretty sure we looked crazy always running around with guns.
I turned away from the building to face Helena again. She was chewing her lip nervously, the way she did when she was uncomfortable.
"Helena."
She snapped out of it and smiled at me sheepishly. "Sorry, Leon. It's just...I still hate what happened with Simmons and the C Virus.... If I hadn't been so desperate and stupid.... Maybe it could have been avoided."
I gave her a half smile and grabbed her shoulder. "Look. Helena nobody blames you for that. If it had been any of us, we probably would have done the same thing."
She smiled at me. "Okay...Well...Let's do this."
Then we walked through the doors.
*Jake's POV*
Chris and the rest of the boyscouts gave me a puzzled look. Honestly, I wasn't sure just how stupid they could be.
"Anyway...I'm out. I will see you boys later."
I turned back towards the little girl I had saved from the...Pigs? I wasn't exactly sure what to call them, but then again, I didn't care. She was safe, and that's all that matters.
"Jake!", I heard Chris yell.
I glanced back over my shoulder just as a whole pack of B.O.W.'s appeared behind Chris. These were different. They had the bodies of wolves, but their tails looked almost like scorpion tails.
They snarled, their bellies close to the ground, their tails whipping the air. I watched in horror as one leaped and snapped it jaws down around one of the soldier's throats.
Chris let out a yell that made me wince. Even though I didn't appreciate the fact that my father was dead because of him, I knew it bothered him when he lost his men.
He lost two complete squads. In a row. Not exactly a good track record.
Just as they started firing their guns, I grabbed the little girl's hand, pulling her along behind me. She protested but shut up when she heard the screams of the soldiers that were being attacked by the scorpion wolves.
These creatures obviously weren't ones we wanted to mess with.
Eventually, we made it to an abondoned alley. Of course, it would be really easy to get trapped here, but we needed to rest every now and then.
Or at least the girl did. Speaking of which, I didn't know her name. Maybe it was better that way.
She sat down on an empty crate while I looked at both entrances into the alley. I didn't want to chance any sneak attacks.
"Thank you...", I heard a small voice say.
I snapped my head around to look at the little girl I was protecting. She looked small and frail in her turban, hugging her elbows.
"What?", I asked.
"I said 'thank you'. For helping me."
I didn't really know how to respond to that. Before I met Sherry, I didn't really know what it meant to owe somebody your life.
And I had never been the one doing the saving. So, I said what I thought was best.
"Sure thing, kid."
