The two walked inside. "Need cash or whatever?"

"No. I can pay for the movie meself. I get an allowance."

"Okay. Are you sure?"

"If yer throwing around cash, give some to Sean. Not me."

John nodded.

"He's too young to have money."

"Then don't go throwing yer money around."

"I'm not throwing my money around. I just offered it to you just in case you didn't have enough."

"I have plenty. Thanks though."

Julian sat down at the kitchen table.

"Instead of a movie, could I just take him to do some fun stuff?"

"Sure. I don't care. Just have fun and be sure to watch him."

"You don't have to tell me."

Julian left. John took his coat off and hung it up again before walking to the couch. Julian came back with Sean.

"Okay. See ye later dad."

"Bye kids. Remember to come back before dark."

"Yeh, yeh. I know."

The kids left and John turned on the television. Then, he decided to lay on the couch and watch the television that way. He started flipping through the channels.

"Boring. Boring. Boring. Not interested. Boring......nothing.......I'm bored......." He switched to a channel that had the weather report on it......

"Great. 20 degrees outside. Snow tomorrow........I need to make sure to stay inside tomorrow." John said to himself.

********

Julian had been there for a week. There was about two feet of snow outside. John was standing on his porch gazing at all the untouched snow that had fallen the night before.

While he was outside, Yoko decided to join him.

"Everything okay?"

"Yeh. Just thinking. You don't need to be out here."

"I know. What's going on in that head of yers?"

"I'm just thinking........I almost didn't see this day. Its a few days until the new year. I almost didn't make it to 1981. I can't take anything for granted any more. I realize now that life is too short. Why waste it on worrying about stuff and taking things for granted?"

"Take it easy and don't worry about it."

"Easier said than done. I can't just not worry about it. We're talking about my life, ye know!"

"I know. Calm down. I'm not saying that to pick a fight."

"I know. I'm sorry. 'Life is very short....for fussing and fighting......'"

"Are you just writing that?"

"What? No! Paul wrote it about 15 years ago! How have you not heard of the song?"

"I never really listened to it."

"Don't give credit to me. Give it to Paul. He wrote it."

"Okay. Come inside. You'll catch a cold."

"No I won't. I'm just fine out here. The most I'll get out here is frostbite."

"That's worse."

"Okay. I'll come inside. Just for you. Not because I'm cold out here or anything."

The two walked inside and John shut the door. Then, he sat at the couch and looked out the window.

"Its nice to see untouched snow."

"Don't worry. In a few days, it'll look touched. Do you want me to shovel the snow?" Julian asked.

"Um.............no. I'll do it."

"Are you sure you want to? I just figured you wanted to stay inside."

"You don't have to do it. You should enjoy yer stay."

"Who says I can't enjoy my stay and shovel snow?"

"Do you really want to?"

"I can. I have no problem with it."

"Okay. You convinced me to let you do it. But remember, yer here to have a good time."

"I know. But I would like to help out around the house even though I don't live here."

"Good to know. Oh, I forgot, I don't really have a snow shovel."

"I could pick one up."

"Okay. While yer at the corner store, bring yer brother. See if he wants anything."

John handed him some money.

"Dad, I told you......I have my own money."

"I know. But that's for Sean. Don't use yer money on him."

Julian shrugged. "Okay. Whatever you say."
