Today is the day of the first real date between Emmett Cullen and Gemma Newton. It's Friday and school has let out. Instead of going to the store today, Gemma goes home to shower and get ready because Emmett is picking her up from here. The best part about Friday's in Forks is that they don't get homework, usually.
Gem hears Mike yells that he's got it when someone rings the doorbell. She puts on her long gray cardigan and boots.
"Gemma! It's for you!" Mike calls from downstairs.
"I'll be right down!" Gemma calls in return.
Gemma runs a brush through her blonde hair once more before she goes downstairs. She finds Mike and Emmett sitting in the living room, both on the couch and with a cushion between them.
"I'm gonna take your place at the store today," Mike stated. "You have a good time, okay?"
"Thanks, Mikey," Gemma says and she gives her brother a hug. "Tell mom..."
"Oh, she's more excited about this than anyone else," Mike muses. "Take care of her, Cullen."
Emmett nods. "Will do."
Gemma gives Mike a look before she follows Emmett out to his beautiful Jeep. Emmett helps her climb into it before he walks around to the other side.
"You look amazing, by the way," Emmett compliments while he starts his vehicle up.
"Thanks," Gemma murmurs. "You look good, too."
"Oh, I know I do," Emmett muses.
Gemma laughs at Emmett's cockiness, her laugh makes the vampire smile. She can respect his confidence; she has the same level. She knows she looks good but she didn't get cocky and admit to it.
Emmett drives them to the public park and he grabs a basket from the backseat, one that Gemma seemed to have overlooked. It's a picnic basket. Emmett opens the passenger's door for Gemma since she was primping slightly. She reminds him a lot of Rosalie. He knows this will be an interesting relationship because he sees how well Chamberlin gets along with Rosalie.
"I didn't peg you for the picnic in the park kind of guy," Gemma claims as Emmett lays the checkered picnic blanket out.
"What kinda guy did you think I was?" Emmett asks as the two sit down.
"The adventurous kind," Gemma claims.
"Oh, I am adventurous, too," Emmett claims. "I just wanted our first date to be calm."
"I wouldn't have complained about an adventure," Gemma claims.
"How does a hike sound?" Emmett asks. "After the picnic, of course."
Gemma smiles and she nods. "Sounds amazing."
Emmett smiles at the human sitting with him, because her smile is so very contagious. He can't help but follow the action.
⚜️⚜️⚜️Gemma watches as Emmett tried to figure out what's going on with his Jeep on the parking lot. It's not wanting to start. Gem thinks it's the temperatures, or it could be the engine.
"Move," Gemma says as she walks over.
She hands Emmett her cardigan and she gets to work under Emmett's hood. The vampire watches as Gemma works on his Jeep, he wishes he let Rosalie show him how to work on vehicles when she offered about fifteen years ago.
"Try it now," Gemma instructs.
Emmett obliges and he gets into his Jeep and he turns the key, nothing. Gemma sighs and she works on something else and she nods for him to try again, and it starts.
"You need s new motor," Gemma states bluntly as she closes the hood. "You get the type you need for your vehicle model, make, and year, and I'll fix it."
Emmett nods as Gemma climbs into the Jeep.
"This has been an eventful date," Gemma claims. "We should do it again; just after we get your Jeep to working again."
Emmett smiles a little and he drives Gemma to her mom's store, which is where she was wanting to go. Emmett and Gemma sit there and talk for a while and then Gemma gets out and goes inside. Emmett goes home.
"How was it?" Chamberlin asks.
"I found out my Jeep needs a new motor," Emmett claims.
"I'll find you one," Rosalie states. "I'll help Gemma."
Emmett groans. "I have to text her. Carpool."
Chamberlin claps a hand against Emmett's bicep while Edward enters the house for he first time in a week. He had to go hunt in order to stand being around Bella.
"Welcome home, a Eddie-boy," Chamberlin greets. "Our boy had a date with miss Gemma."
"How was it?" Edward asks curiously.
"Good," Emmett replies. "I had two years to build up restraint around her."
"Lucky you," Edward grumbles. "Gemma does seem nice."
Emmett agrees and he pulls out his phone to text Gemma for a ride to and from school until his Jeep can get fixed. Edward heads upstairs to talk with Carlisle while Esme sits on the couch with Alice, and they look through some Vogue magazines, the house is now in a comfortable silence.
⚜️⚜️⚜️⚜️"How was your first real date with Emmett Cullen?" Karen asks her daughter while Gemma stocks some shelves with baseball bats.
"It was good," Gemma replies. "Cliche; had a picnic at the park."
"That's adorable," Karen claims. "My first date with Henry was at a drive in— and we didn't even watch the movie."
"Ah, I don't need to hear that, mom!" Gemma complains.
Karen laughs and she grabs a bag of soccer balls and she goes to the bin where they go. The store is closed; Karen, Mike, and Gemma are all stocking up for the following day.
"Then I realized Emmett's Jeep has a jacked up motor that needs changed," Gemma says. "He said Rosalie was going to help me, but he'll be carpooling with me 'till it's fixed."
"He does have a nice ride," Mike claims as he puts some hiking boots on the shelf where they would typically go. "And you have capable hands."
"Of course I do," Gemma replies.
The Newton family finish stocking the store in silence. Once that's done, Mike and Gemma go to the back to check inventory while Karen makes some calls, saying they need more shipments. The Newton's spend their night working on the store since it'll be about a week or so until the shipment comes.
